Awesome! 4.5 stars! Gemma Rogers has become a definite go-to author for me. Her psychological thrillers are fantastic. The Stranger at No. 6 focuses on a practice called “phrogging” - secretly living in someone’s already occupied home without their knowledge or permission. This alone got me interested. This book is full of excitement, potentially dangerous situations, plenty of secrets, discovery, tension, a sense of dread, good people doing bad things and more. Have people really done people this? I find myself checking closets and extra rooms now. Yikes! The main character, Molly, is likable but can be a bit precarious - actually much more than a bit. But that is part of what makes this book so intriguing. Rogers excels at creating a gripping, dramatic and breathtaking read. I don’t want to give any more away, but be sure to pick this up for an enthralling, thrilling, can’t-put-down adventure. Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the digital ARC.

The Stranger at No. 6 is one of those thrillers that will capture your attention from the very first page. The idea of someone secretly living in a family’s home is already chilling enough, but Gemma Rogers takes it further by adding to the mix secrets, suspicion, and the creeping sense that nobody in the house is as innocent as they appear.
The tension really kicks in when a woman goes missing and the narrator begins suspecting Jack Reilly. That mix of voyeurism, suspicion, and danger kept the story sharp and fast moving. I loved how the book balanced suspense with psychological intrigue, never letting the mystery feel one dimensional. The family drama, the affair, and the claustrophobic setting all added to the sense that something explosive was bound to happen.

If I had one small critique, it would be that some of the twists were a little easy to spot, but it honestly did not take away from the enjoyment. Emma Rogers knows how to build atmosphere and keep the pages turning.

This is definitely an addictive, unsettling thriller that plays on the fear of what might be happening just out of sight. If you like dark, voyeuristic suspense and stories that feel both shocking and disturbingly possible this is the book for you!

Gemma Rogers never misses! The Night Shift still lives in my head rent-free, and now The Stranger at No. 6 has me hooked all over again. I devoured it from the very first page — heart racing, pulse pounding. I can’t get enough!

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC!

I think the book suffers a bit because of the pacing. The beggining is fine but it starts dragging around the halfway mark. The second part of the book felt a bit flat because it just kept reinforcing what the main character thought up until that point, only to throw a "plot twist" in the last two episodes, but by that point it just felt like an add on to the book because it felt like the book had already ended and we were just reading epilogues.

I have to say I did enjoy the methodical aspect of the phrogging shown in the first episodes and also quite enjoyed the blog posts the main character wrote. I would 100% read a book that was only about phrogging lol.

The Stranger At No.6 - Gemma Rogers

- I couldn't deny it was exciting knowing you were somewhere you weren't supposed to be, but your life had to mould around theirs, I'd learned -

Loved this! A very different thriller with the added suspense of Molly living in No.6! Unbeknown to the Riley's.

I was expecting a twist but not the twist you get!! Really well written, keeps you on your toes throughout the whole book.

Molly's job was really interesting, how she kept so much information to herself being in that role I'll never know! Her job as a journalist fitted in really well with her hobby of phrogging.

Despite there being so many pockets of information and twists and turns this was such an easy read! Definitely give this one a go if you enjoy a who done it thriller!!

This was an okay read. Didnt have much excitement for me in the book. The writing was bit repetitive and was easily solved like 60% of the book. Molly was a character, not only did she get to phrog with a family but also solve a myster with one of the housemates mistress. I will say it will hold you once it gets past the slow part and pick back up.

"Phrogging is the act of secretly living in another person’s home without their knowledge or permission. Phrogging is similar to squatting except that phrogging involves living in an occupied property."

Molly is determined to become a good phrogger; she's trying to save up money for a conversion van that she can fulfill her dream of travelling the highways and byways of life as a travel writer/blogger. She decides that this particular journey is one she will blog to her readers so they can follow along as she gives them best tips and tricks for secret phrogging cohabitation. No. 6 Church Road seems to be the perfect location - a small family who's out a lot, a conversion loft upstairs that's not in use, it's almost a dream come true! Almost. When she finds herself overhearing an illicit affair and then realising the "other" woman has now disappeared, Molly must make the tough decision about whether or not she should approach the police with what she knows. But what does she actually know?

This was such a good, intense thriller because of all the voyeuristic aspects of phrogging. It's a term I was already acquainted with before reading this, and I thought it would be a super interesting premise for a mystery thriller - what if you were living secretly alongside another family and a terrible crime occurs, what would you do? Would you go to the police and chance prosecution for illegally living there? Or would you try to gather more evidence and possibly figure it out yourself? This was a great look at those questions and there were enough plot twists and turns to keep me fully invested throughout the story.

4.5 ⭐️ | “Phrogging is the act of secretly living in another person’s home without their knowledge or permission. A person who engages in phrogging is sometimes called a phrog or, less commonly, a phrogger. The verb form phrog is sometimes used. Phrogging is similar to squatting, except that phrogging involves living in an occupied property.”

I’ll bet when Molly began phrogging in the home of Jack, Helena and & their son Nathan, she didn’t anticipate being in the middle of missing persons case, secret affairs and a murd3r investigation! We can definitely say she “bit off more than she can chew.” Not only is she phrogging, she’s also blogging these events to her followers anonymously - dangerous game she’s playing right? Despite it all, Molly has a way of still making you root for her despite this being wrong on so many levels!

This story drew me in from the very beginning and held my interest in its entirety. It was very suspenseful and made me doubt myself numerous times, as I tried to determine who’s good and who’s not. If you’re looking for a twisty, well written domestic thriller, Gemma Rogers certainly delivers that in this story! I am looking forward to more of her work. Thank you Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher, Boldwood Books, for this eARC for review purposes. All opinions expressed are mine alone. "The Stranger at No. 6" by Gemma Rogers is widely available now.

Phrogging is the act of secretly living in a home or occupied property, often in hidden spaces like attics or basements, without the knowledge or consent of the residents.

Wow! This was an entertaining book to read! It's fun, twisty, thrilling, and you can't help but root for the main character, Mol. I felt as if I were there the whole time, sneaking around with Mol, and it was pretty exciting and nerve-wracking, too.

Mol might be a news reporter for a small local newspaper, but she turns into quite the amateur sleuth. Even though her phrogging is highly illegal, she really tries her best to uncover the truth of the situation. I admire her for that.

Overall, if you're looking for something different with a good mystery, this popcorn thriller might just be for you.

The Stranger at No. 6
by Gemma Rogers
Pub Date: Sep 08 2025

I've never read a book like this before in my life! It's about phrogging, I'd never even heard of that word before. For those like myself who don't know what that means, let me explain. It is the act of secretly living in someone else’s occupied home without their knowledge, and they also living in the same house. You ask how could that ever happen....after reading this gripping domestic psychological thriller you will understand!

This was one wild psychological thriller that had me on the edge of my seat! Lots of twists and turns and the ending I did not see coming! A great 5 Star read.

Many thanks to #TheStrangeratNo6 #NetGalley and #BoldwoodBooks for providing me an E-ARC of this fantastic read!

Molly Hudson works on the editorial desk of a local newspaper. She doesn’t make much money at her job but hopes to get more assignments from her editor. Tired of not being able to afford her own place, Molly has taken to “Phrogging.” This means she finds a way to secretly live in someone’s home without them knowing it. She has tried it several times and needs to find another place. Seeing a nice, large home that has recently been sold to the Reilly family, she feels it’s a perfect fit for her.

Helena, Jack, and their 6-year-old son, Nathan, have busy schedules. Helena is a marketing manager for a nice restaurant group. Jack works as a pastoral assistant at a local school and Nathan is in school.

Molly finds a place upstairs in the loft of the Reilly home and uses her ways to get in and out. It’s not always easy and she has to be very careful, but she’s doing well so far. But when she finds out something about Jack and a young woman goes missing, Molly thinks Jack is guilty and is determined to find out what happened to the woman.

This is a very twisty thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. Every time Molly entered the Reilly home, I cringed. I cannot even imagine someone phrogging. It’s so crazy and anyone trying this has to be nuts. However, that’s what made the book so good and the surprise at the end only added to the scariness of the story. Do read and enjoy this one!

Wow! I was so excited when I saw this thriller was about Phrogging (living in someone’s house and they don’t know it). This had me on edge! Molly had no idea when she decided to live in the Reilly’s house, she would see and hear things that she’s not supposed to. A missing woman, an affair and a twist you won’t see coming! Great thriller!

WiwmWhen Gemma knows how to pack a punch and hook, line and sink you into her books. This was no exception. I love Gemma's way of weaving together a plot that keeps you guessing. This was a fantastic read.

Y’all… The Stranger at No.6 is like peeking through the keyhole of someone else’s life—and loving every creepy second. 👀 Jack Reilly’s house isn’t just a home, it’s a playground for secrets, scandal, and someone (me? maybe) living rent-free in the loft. Phrogging, anyone? 🏠💀

Gemma Rogers serves suspense with a side of deliciously twisted voyeurism. The tension? Thick enough to slice with a knife. The characters? Juicy, flawed, and messy in all the best ways. And the writing? Sharp, clever, and cinematic—you can practically smell the coffee, hear the creak of floorboards, and feel the thrill of sneaking past unsuspecting homeowners. ☕👣

Twists hit hard, stakes climb higher, and my heart raced like a kid who knows they’re about to get caught. Secrets, lies, and a top-floor hideout make this one unputdownable. Just… maybe check your attic before you curl up with it. 😏

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ Atmospheric, twisted fun with a deliciously dark sense of humor.
