The idea of "phrogging," a stranger secretly living in someone else's home, has me questioning my own security. Gemma Rogers’ The Stranger at No. 6 dives headfirst into this unsettling premise, and just when things couldn't get creepier, a young woman goes missing! Now, I’m giving the side eye to every creak or shift in my home!
This was an interesting read, offering a fresh take on suspense based on a concept that I pray to never face, whether as a Phrogger or a Phroggee. We follow Molly, our main character, as she offers us a front-row seat to her nail-biting adventure, making us feel as if we're tucked away in a wardrobe alongside her. You can’t help but feel the rush of adrenaline as she risks everything, especially during the moments when she is being reckless!

The narrative flows smoothly with a straightforward plot. While it doesn't dig deeply into the backstories of the supporting characters, it uses them effectively to propel Molly's journey forward. It’s a simple story, yet so much fun! I particularly enjoyed the integration of blog posts into the Phrogger experience. Though the inner monologues felt a bit excessive at times, as they made the prose somewhat wordy. However, the short chapters kept the momentum going. I also think the blog entries might resonate more in an audiobook format, adding an interesting layer.

Molly is a captivating main character. Her desire for independence is palpable, yet ironic, and you can't help but root for her, despite her occasional impulsiveness.

The author skillfully crafted the twist; just when you think you have it all figured out, there's a nice surprise that keeps you on your toes. I appreciated the subtle hints and clues sprinkled throughout that challenge the reader to piece together the mystery before the big reveal.

The Stranger at No. 6 is a thoroughly enjoyable ride filled with suspense and anticipation. If you're drawn to domestic thrillers packed with secrets, tension, and a gripping mystery, this book is definitely up your alley!
Thank you to Net Galley, Boldwood Books, and Gemma Rogers for the ARC!

The Stranger at No. 6 is an addictive thriller that gripped me immediately. The concept of phrogging was intriguing and had not been a part of any of the thrillers I’ve read. It's fast paced, original, and entertaining. It had me reading late into the night, racing toward the shocking conclusion. I was immersed in Molly’s risky world, which kept me on the edge of my seat. This is the second thriller I have read by Gemma Rogers, and both have been five-star reads. She is an auto-read author for me, and I look forward to reading her next thrilling creation. Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my ARC.

I’m gobsmacked on two counts… one, that I had never read a Gemma Rogers’ book before; and two, that phrogging (the act of living in someone else’s occupied home without their knowledge or permission) actually exists! The first means I have some catching up to do - what a fabulous author I’ve been missing out on; and the second I really wish I was still ignorant about!
There’s lots of domestic psychological thrillers on the shop shelves and I find they tend to be a little formulaic. Gemma Rogers has managed to capture a relatively unfamiliar element and combined with great characters and strong storytelling has a five star read on her hands.
The protagonist, Molly, made some ridiculous decisions but she’s young and I couldn’t even imagine having the audacity to contemplate phrogging so who am I to question her reactions and decisions.
The Stranger at No.6 is a well paced and tense read. It’s a real page turner and I flew through it desperate to find out how it ended.
Thank you to NetGailey and Boldwood Books for an eARC of this book.

this book took me in from the start just because id never heard of the term Phrogging before. and wow! what a way to learn about it haha.
i was taken in and hooked from the first pages and wanted to just keep on reading.
the fact this term is an actually thing and i happening in this country and not rarely had me wanting to go into my attic. but god help em to be honest to i immediately calmed myself down lol. i wish them luck if they are up there to be honest. but to read this book on it knowing its real was both shocking and intriguing.
Molly is our said Phrogger in this book. shes broke so 6 Church road seems like the perfect option for her. a new family have moved in and she as plenty of places to hide with them there. shes basically going to share with them and they wont know a thing about her presence.
what Molly sees as something working for her advantage soon turns shady when one lunchtime the man of the house comes home aaaaaand....
the book just goes on and on pulling us in. the tension and little squirms of what we think might come next and then reading what does is a brilliant thriller feeling. its exciting and tension building and in that jiggly ooooo this is good kind of way. thrown in. because the mans mistress is missing. so how does Molly solve this or even let anyone know the glaring suspect in this whole thing if she isn't meant to even know them, know they exist, or that hes having an affair with the missing?
it had all those fab elements of surprise and solving of whats going on. whats really going on. and how not everyone is what you think they are. and villains might not be who we think they are too.
i flew through this book. there was no way i could not read until the end in almost one swoop to know what was going to happen in the end. i haaaaad to know.
oh my gosh this was such a fab book. cant give it enough stars for me. the fact it had this real element to it that was both shocking and had me wanted to know more was brill. seeing it through a thriller and fiction novel was even better.

The premise of this book gives me chills and definitely adds to the atmosphere of the book. I kept thinking what if I found someone in my house?
This was a very unique plot idea. Great character development, definitely a villain and a great twist at the end!
It reads fast and holds your attention, there was definitely a point that I had suspicions all may not be as it seems but definitely didn’t see that twist coming.

I was completely new to the concept of phrogging so as the term is introduced early on I did google it to find it does exist. I was fascinated and horrified in equal measures but unfortunately the book didn’t turn out as interesting as the subject matter. Actually that’s not quite fair because I was completely hooked up to the half way point when Molly’s actions were too outrageous to take seriously and the culprit seemed fairly obvious if not the method.
So a good idea which had me on tenterhooks for a good few hours but lost momentum.

Phrogging wasn’t a term I was familiar with and the premise of it intrigued me when starting this book. Molly is a determined and broke young journalist at a local newspaper who is fed up sofa surfing at her friends house, so blogs about phrogging, which is living undetected in someone else’s home. She moves into to a house just occupied by a new couple and their child, living in an upstairs bedroom and journaling her thoughts.
This is a great pacy read with good characters and a good plot. There is plenty of tension and dark moments which were exciting to read and overall this is a well written and enjoyable family thriller.
Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Netgalley for the advanced reader copy.
This was a quick popcorn thriller and unfortunately I predicted the ending right away. The phrogging story line was unique and could have been so much better. Disappointed in the ending. 3 stars for me.

2.25 🌟 rounded down
I thought this novel sounded creepy and interesting, but overall, I was let down by its execution. Phrogging is something I've heard of and been horrified by the stories before. It was quick-paced, at least. However, Molly, the FMC, is relatively immature and entitled, which makes her difficult to like. She kept making the stupidest excuses and decisions. I had difficulty suspending my disbelief with this book because she acted ridiculously. I'm pretty sure you need to be more clever than Molly presented to get away with phrogging.
I'm sure there's an audience for this, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.
Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC.

Gemma Rogers delivers a darkly original and addictive psychological thriller in The Stranger at No. 6. The story introduces us to Molly Hudson, a young journalist with big dreams and very little money, who turns to the unsettling practice of phrogging. Phrogging is the act of secretly living inside someone else’s home while the unsuspecting residents go about their daily lives. For Molly, it is a way to save money for her future while feeding her curiosity as an observer of other people’s lives.
Her latest hidden refuge is the beautiful Reilly family home on Church Road. At first, it feels like the perfect arrangement. The Reillys appear to be a loving family, and Molly is convinced she can remain undetected while quietly blogging about her unusual lifestyle. But when Molly stumbles across something she was never meant to witness, the safety of her arrangement unravels and she is drawn into a dangerous web of secrets, suspicions, and lies.
Rogers keeps the tension high from the very first chapter. The concept of phrogging is both fascinating and deeply unsettling, and it immediately places the reader in Molly’s shoes, questioning what it means to invade someone else’s private world. Molly is a flawed but compelling character. She takes risks, makes questionable choices, and often finds herself out of her depth, yet her determination and vulnerability make her someone readers will root for despite her mistakes.
The Reilly family is equally intriguing, presented with layers of complexity that leave the reader constantly wondering about their true nature. Are they victims, villains, or something in between? Rogers uses this uncertainty to great effect, maintaining an atmosphere of suspense that builds to a tense and shocking climax.
The writing is sharp, the pacing relentless, and the atmosphere laced with a creeping sense of dread. Rogers brings something fresh to the domestic thriller genre by exploring the unsettling idea of a stranger hiding in plain sight. It makes you think twice about how private our homes really are.
The Stranger at No. 6 is clever, chilling, and utterly gripping. Readers who love psychological thrillers with fresh ideas and plenty of twists will find themselves racing through the pages. Gemma Rogers has created a story that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, proving once again why she is such a standout voice in the genre.

5 ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨ ✨s.
Wow this book was amazing.
I do love myself a bit of Gemma Rogers.
I think this one is now my top favourite of hers.
I was hooked immediately and it continued to be captivating till the very end.
Absolutely amazing.
I can't say I've ever heard of the word Phrogging before but I know now.
I really can't wait for the next book now.

While this wasn’t my favorite thriller of all time, I still enjoyed this read and would read other books by this author. Molly was a well-drawn character—sympathetic but flawed, emotionally raw, and increasingly anxious. Even more, the secondary characters (husband, friends, other neighbors) were sometimes thinly drawn but served their purpose in the narrative’s tension.
Overall, I love the writing style and found The Stranger at No 6 to be another entertaining and all consuming read!

No. 6 Church Road was the Reilly family's dream home. A recently renovated three-storey house with just three occupants and more importantly, a whole vacant top floor. So, there was plenty of space for one more, Right? They had no idea I was sleeping in their empty loft conversion., cohabiting with them, eating their food, using their water, heating and WIFI. Basically living for free, but it wasn't for the thrill, I had discovered "phrogging." It seemed the perfect set-up, but when a local woman vanished, I suspected Jack Reilly was involved, You see I had witnessed their illicit affair and Jack had a cast iron alibi, but I don't believe it for one second.
I had never heard of phrogging before I read this book. I would hate to think that an unknown person was staying uninvited in my home. Molly had chosen the Reilly's house to live in. She stayed hidden in a wardrobe while the family were at home. But then Jack Reilly mistress vanishes, and Molly, a journalist, starts investigating.
Molly is a flawed character but she is likeable. The pace is steady in this addictive read.

When I started this book, I had never heard of the word "phrogging" or what it meant. This book really opened my eyes.
Gemma cleverly draws you in by explaining what phrogging is and taking you on a journey through the life of a phrogger. It's a fascinating insight into the experiences and daily life of someone living undetected.
The main character, Molly, learns a great deal about the family she is secretly living with. She encounters lies and deceit as she grapples with what to do with the information she has discovered. Another thrilling book from Gemma Rogers.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review-
What a wild read- I couldn’t put it down!
Because she was saving for a camper to live it she decided to go phrogging- living in someone’s home for free , the owners not knowing they were there eating, sleeping, showering, etc. She wrote for the paper so worked at home and could easy use things when family was gone unless like one day the husband came home with his mistress. Run, hide! The family moved here to get away from the husbands last affair. And when the mistress is found murdered she is sure it is Jack but can she prove it? Why would he murder her tho? A shocking thriller you don’t want to miss!

Let’s try phrogging! What is it you ask? It is the act of secretly living in someone else’s occupied home without their knowledge, and they also living in the same house. I just do not know how you would not know if someone else is living in your home with you in it!!! This was one wild thriller and had me on the edge of my seat! Lots of twists and turns and the ending was great! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release to be out September 8, 2025. A very different, yet compelling thriller you’ll want to grab!!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
Wow what an incredibly quirky and enjoyable book this was. If you're looking for a psychological thriller that grips you from the very first page, this one is it.
The story follows Molly, a struggling journalist who’s found a disturbing solution to her rent problem—phrogging—the act of secretly living inside someone else's home while they remain completely unaware. Her latest hidden home is a beautifully renovated house on Church Road, occupied by the Reilly family. It seems like the perfect setup. This was really unusual and I thoroughly enjoyed this concept. Made me wonder if I have anyone phrogging in my loft!
But then things start to unravel in the most spectacular way. Molly witnesses something she was never meant to see.
This novel is packed with tension, secrets, and a mounting sense of dread that builds to a shocking finale. Molly is a flawed but wonderful character—I was definitely rooting for her, even as she walks a morally grey line. I loved that she was blogging about her phrogging experiences, and using that to test if the decisions she was making during the course of the book were right or not.
The family who Molly moves in with were fantastic characters too and you were never quite sure if they were good or bad. But doesn't that just make reading this even more fascinating. The development of all of the characters were wonderful. You could really see them leaping off the pages.
The writing is sharp, the pacing relentless, and the concept of phrogging? Both disturbing and fascinating. I flew through this book and didn’t want it to end. An addictive read with a genuinely fresh twist on the domestic thriller.
Highly recommended.

Molly was enjoying her experience Phogging, this involved living rent free in someone else’s house without there knowledge. She had done this a few times but this family wasn’t as happy as they looked from the outside.
It seemed to her the perfect set up but when Jack brought a woman into the house that wasn’t his wife then that woman disappeared it peaks Mollys interest after all she is a reporter. All I had to do was to keep my living I the house secret til I could gather all the evidence of the killers identity.
Brilliant book kept you guessing til the very end. As usual Gemma Rodger’s has you know the edge of your seat.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for an early copy of The Stranger at No. 6. Phrogging is WOW, STRESSFUL, SCARY AND ANXIETY PROVOKING!!! I never heard of the word but I won’t forget it after reading this book. I was anxiety ridden throughout this whole novel. Crazy way of living. Very, very good read!!! A Big twist at the end that I was very surprised, never would have thought of it. Thank you sooooo much again, Great book!!!!

Creepy, claustrophobic, and totally bingeable. This thriller drops you into a renovated dream home with a nightmare squatting in the loft.
