Thanks to NetGalley and Canelo for providing me with an eARC.
This was a great collection of poems. I found it really interesting the way the Shipping Forecast everyday sounded like poetry and music to so many. I personally don't know much about it, but it was great to read and made me feel closer to the sea. I also appreciated the historical bits mentioned and the classification of the poems based on emotional effect, the situation in which it was written etc. I couldn't fully relate to it because I didn't know much about the places themselves but the explanations were helpful to some extent. I would recommend this to anyone who knows about/loves the Shipping Forecast or in general weather forecasts especially relevant to the sea.

There's nothing so quintessentially British as the Shipping Forecast - it has soothed me on many an occasion with its hypnotic and undulating rhythm. This book combines poetry and prose with the Shipping Forecast as the muse/subject/starting point, and does a fantastic job of bringing it all together into a cohesive whole. Not too much poetry for those averse to such things, and there's a good amount of humour in there that had me chuckling to myself!

This is a must for fans of the hypnotic institution that is BBC Radio 4’s The Shipping Forecast. The book is a tribute to the joy and the poetry of the programme; a mix of essays and poetry discussing its place in national life. I expect it will be finding its way into a lot of Christmas stockings this year!
