When involuntarily retired investigator Mick Nassau finds his best friend injured from a massive blow to the back of his head on his own boat after a hurricane, it would have been easy for most people to not look too far beyond the storm. Things get blown about in strong winds, people do get hurt. The first thing that visiting Mick, along with the close harbour community, is to get the man to hospital, and for a while recovery from the injury and ensuing surgery are what occupies most people's.minds. Captain Jack Barton is a much-loved member of the community.
But Nassau is suspicious (nothing else on Narton's boat is damaged, and his phone has vanished. And the harbour appears to be harbouring some suspicious-looking characters. But what could be the motive for wanting the good skipper out of the picture?
No longer an official cop, Mick turns private sleuth - something not appreciated by the local sheriff, and not by Jack Barton's sister, who does not want to see Mick come to any harm. The investigation comes up against a brick wall.
Mick finds himself gettiing further embroiled in a seaside community he grows to like, whst local cuisine brmecomes as bewitching as his potential live interest.
So there is romance and Intrigue as well as mystery. Mick presented with something to.prove if he is to.solve the case without antagonising officialdom, whilst working towards going private.
This novel should appeal to those who e joy a good crime no that combines romance, a d where the good things of life are celebrated: community, good food, camaraderie between friends.

This was an interesting and enjoyable read; an intriguing mystery full of suspense and entertaining characters. Ex-Special Agent Mick Nassau is a likeable individual, and his best friend Jack is well-liked in Key West. What happens is no accident and Mick decides to investigate. The events that enfold lead to more danger and the offshore treasure dive scene of corruption. The story is fast-pasted and riveting. A great ending. I am hoping that there’s a series coming from this book with Mick Nassau in his new role. Highly recommend.

This was a very slow paced read and I didn't feel like I connected with the characters.
It told a nice story and I could tell the author had done a lot of research before writing about the places she covered in the book.
I loved the parts about bob the dog and the romance story with some of the characters where nice however I was expecting more of a thriller and the twists it promised fell flat for me.
Thank you for letting me read and review.
