Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review Their Haunted Hearts, the 27th (!) book in D.K. Hood's Detectives Kane and Alton series.
Black Rock Falls + Halloween = Serial killer/vampire slayer. I cannot wait to see how this turns out.
We all know that Halloween in Black Rock Falls - Serial Killer Central - is both a time for celebration and abject terror; and this year is no exception. Their son, Jackson, is now 15 months old, and Jenna and Dave are back hard at work, protecting their town and its inhabitants as well as their family and all of their extended clan. And then, somebody decides that vampires are running amok in Black Rock!
Will the team be able to figure out who and why before the big Halloween Ball?
I've read all of these books, and reviewed most of them, and this one is a worthy addition to the canon. Everything you have come to expect from the series is there.
Although I did have a pretty good idea of the perpetrator, I was still engrossed in the story, right up until the very end.
This was a great return visit to Black Rock Falls, and we got a little sneak peek into future goings-on.

I love this series and want to read every word. That being said I feel like I missed a book with Jenna and Dave taking a year off and Jackson now 15 months old.
But it's Halloween time again and what would Halloween in Black Rock Falls be without a murder or three? Follow the team as the books starts out strong and everyone races out for a shooter in the street. And it doesn't slow down from there.
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Black Rock Falls has another serial killer in their midst. As Halloween approaches the killer is convinced he is saving the town by killing vampires. Can they find him before he finishes his job and leaves town? Few suspects and time is running out. This is a page turner with plenty of suspense. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband, Deputy David Kane are back at work after a year of maternity/paternity leave.
It is nearly Halloween, and another serial killer has struck.
He kills young, vulnerable women on their own, and the race is on to stop this monster.
Black Rock Falls is on place I would avoid visiting or living in! Serial Killer Central.
Jenna and David Kane are a perfect couple. Kane has secrets that Jenna could not guess about. Their team is a close knit team, but it seems Rio has had a taste of what it is like to be top dog, and might just make a move to take over the position!
Fast paced, many suspects (for once I identified the murderer correctly before the reveal), and a page turner.
What more could a reader want?

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.
When a dead girl is found propped up in a coffin, drained of good and with puncture marks on her neck, rumours of vampires flood Black Rock Falls. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deptiy Dave Kane and the team begin to investigate. As the bodies increase, it’s clear they have a serial killer in town.
This book takes place 15 months from the previous one. Jenna and Dave have had a year away from work and are now back till time. I liked that the author did this time jump, but I was also sad not to see them navigate the newborn stage!
As always I enjoy reading these characters. I always feel like I am right there and that they could be friends of mine. The writing was very atmospheric, especially with the descriptions of the bridge and the storm (no spoilers!). My heart was in my mouth at times and I couldn’t put this down. Fast paced and tense, it was almost time to put my kindle in the freezer (iykyw).
I enjoy the methodical approach to all of these stories. Working through the list of subjects and eliminating as we progress. I had my suspicions early on, and was proven correct but it still came
Out of the blue when it was revealed.
Highly recommend!

Oh dear, it’s almost Halloween again in Black Rock Falls, and loyal readers of this fantastic series already know what this means. The village attracts serial killers like metal to a magnet, and let’s be honest — what better cover is there to hide a corpse than among all those festive decorations the villagers love so much?
And indeed! Even before the holiday arrives, Jenna and her team are already called in for a murder case — and one that fits the Halloween atmosphere perfectly...
Shocked by the audacity of the killer, I decided, just like the police team, to turn every detail inside out and upside down, hoping I might finally be able to “arrest” the right person myself. I must admit, the author didn’t make it easy for me, and my grey cells had to work overtime. Still, there was a certain someone who made my hair stand on end, so I focused all my attention on them.
Jenna and her team once again find themselves in dangerous situations, but they never hesitate to go all in. I held my breath several times and crossed my fingers.
What can I say? It’s still a phenomenally good series, and I just can’t get enough of it. As far as I’m concerned, bring on the next book! :)
Oh, and maybe you’re wondering if I was right in the end? The answer is yes. ;)
I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to give this story 5 stars.
Thank you.
