I read this book in two evenings. It would have been in one evening but I’m in the midst of packing to move house.
What a lovely story. The story is very appropriate for current times, namely in a world of fast food and some people not taking the time to appreciate the hard work that goes into producing produce for our dining tables in homes across the country. Moreso, it touched on the difficulties farmers are facing to keep their heads afloat but more importantly their sanity. The story deals with these challenges in an empathic way, shining the torch on the lifestyle of a modern day farmer, whilst still having a romantic element to it.
Personally, I feel Jo Thomas pulled it out the bag with this one. A delight to read from start to finish. I dare you not to think twice about your local farmer, after having read this book.

Jo Thomas is back with her Christmas offering and this time it's set in Wales on a farm in the country. Unfortunately it just didnt grab me the way her previous books have done and I found the main character boring.
Sorry thank you for letting me have early access.

It was great to read a Jo Thomas book set in the UK and it’s really relevant too. Jem was encouraged by her father ti build a life away from the family farm but when a pre Christmas visit gets extended due to her father’s ill health she starts to consider a different kind of future. The setting of this in a Welsh village that’s slowing dying due to farmers struggling and general impoverishment in the area feels all too sadly true to life however the characters that live there really do bring it to life in this book. With a very constant theme of how farmers are struggling and consumers need to be far more aware of the origins of their food along with the struggles of village life and how social media can be used for good this is a heartwarming read that makes you feel part of a community. It’s undoubtedly thought provoking and certainly highlights how uncertain farming can be but the fabulous residents and the way they support each other adds a strong note of positivity and as you’d hope there’s a lot of love to go round too. Although set over the Christmas period this is lovely to read any time of the year and offers a lot of hope and positivity.

Oh gosh. I loved this . A beautiful story. A farming community hit by big chains . A daughter realising the cooperate world is not made for her. I could not put it down. Loved the dad daughter relationship . Some twists I did not expect. You need cake or chocolate while you read it. I craved a baked potato at the end.. Jo Thomas at her best and a subject matter that is in the news and it made you think. Read it.
