My son found this book interesting and it was easy for him to understand he was so engrossed in it

A good mix of short stories that represent different areas of the First World War. Dreary makes learning about the First World War accessible, by providing a small but diverse range of short stories that are a good launching point for anyone — child or adult — wanting to learn more.

The activities that Dreary has constructed are a fantastic way to engage children with the subject, asking them to put themselves in another persons shoes and empathise and imagine. It’s a great way to learn.

As an adult, I’ve been having a fanatic time reading these, and while I wish the books sometimes went a bit more in depth (but in a way still suitable for the target audience) these books really are an accessible way for children to learn.

After reading a selection of the other books in the series, I was hoping the First and Second World Wars would be included. They hold such heartfelt, important and pertinent lessons, I think it’s important for young and old to hear their tales.

Great storytelling, well crafted and perfect for young readers (& the old ones like me). The format is great for their targeted age group too, with four short stories that have short chapters, great illustrations and interactive activities at the end.

Also, crying at the bravery of a pigeon was not on my bingo card today but here we are. Amazingly written and a great selection of stories based on true events!
