Castles of Scotland, Ireland & Wales made my heart so happy! As a castle nut, I was thrilled to note I have been to 70 of the 100+ mentioned in this gorgeous book. The 150 photographs are deeply enchanting and evocative. My love affair with castles began with Edinburgh Castle and castle exploring instantly became an unquenchable obsession. Envisioning what life may have been like hundreds and even thousands of years ago is made so easy with this book. I felt the atmosphere.
The five chapters are Hill Forts, Early Middle Ages, Late Middle Ages, Early Modern Era and Modern Times. Choosing 100 must have been incredibly difficult as there are so many options! Though 2,300 year old hill forts such as Chun Hill Fort require imagination, they are fascinating to explore and further learn about culture. Castle evolution to the Middle Ages and more modern eras is enlightening. Castle ruins are are just important and interesting to explore. Many are spectacularly located with superlative views. Some are difficult to reach, such as those on islands, but well worth the journey. Criccieth, Tintagel, Eilean Donan, Niedpath, Caerphilly, Carew, Caernarfon, Harlech, Beaumaris, Duart, Dunnottar, Kilchurn, Ross, Craigievar, Culzean and Castell Coch are some of my personal favourites in this book.
Surprisingly, a few castles in Brittany are included. I love, love, love this book! Pure joy for thirsty castle people but is an excellent armchair traveler book, too. Plenty of stimulation and inspiration here. Absolutely unmissable.

The formatting of this document is poor in all file types, making it difficult to read. On top of that, the images aren’t as visually beautiful as I expected. It’s difficult to rate the hardcover version of the book based on the quality of the electronic version. Overall, the content is interesting, but I couldn’t recommend it as a coffee table book.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.

Scotland and Ireland are two of my favorite places that I have visited. I have been to a few castles in both countries so I was super excited to see this on NetGalley. The pictures were gorgeous and I like the blurbs about each castle. I was a bit disappointed Alnwick Castle wasn’t included. It was also weird that French castles were included when France isn’t mentioned in the title. Overall, I enjoyed this!

Beautiful pictures of castles in Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. Along with information on them, their location and some history. I enjoyed looking at some I had not heard of.

Beautiful pictures with informative captions.
I would've maybe liked a few more interior shots of the castles and more in depth information about each of the castles but overall I enjoyed looking through this book.
Even though the title says this book is castles based in Scotland, Ireland & Wales there are a few English castles & based in Brittany included.

The history of Scotland, Wales, and Ireland through the ruins of its fortifications or what remains of its castles, even the best preserved ones. The photos are very beautiful and the stories flow smoothly even for those who come from other countries. I recently visited Scotland, which is perhaps why I enjoyed the photos and stories so much, even though I haven't seen all the castles mentioned in the book.
I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.
