This book focuses on Zoey (which was interesting to read as my own name is Zoë), who is a crime writer who tags along with a local police officer to hopefully get some inspiration for her new book. When this night turns into a fatal one for the officer, she becomes the only witness, and one with a target on her back.
Can she solve the crime before she turns into the next victim?

Honestly, this is the perfect vacation/holiday book in my opinion. It's not really something I would normally gravitate towards, but with such a title and gorgeous cover, I had to give it a try. Being humorous whilst filling the audience with unease over Zoey's choices as she narrates out loud that she should not do exactly what she is doing, this book balances these feelings perfectly.
Although it's not a book that I will think about much now that I have finished it, it was a quick and suspenseful read. I would've loved to see more of Harvey (who, throughout the book, remained my favourite character) and know what Zoey ended up writing for her next book.

Overall, a great start to my holiday readings and would give this book 3.25 stars.

I really enjoyed this book, it's perfect for spooky season!

Zoey is a writer who is suffering from writers block, so she joins a police officer to get some ideas. Unfortunately, things end badly and Zoey witnesses his murder. Now Zoey is a suspect whilst fearing for her life as the murderer attempts to find her.

Can she solve the murder before she gets too close to the truth?

3 stars for me. Zoey Kozinski is a writer, hoping to get some new material for the book she ride-along with the local cop Austin. During traffic stop, the cop is shot and Zoey is the only witness.

Being accused of distracting officer Austin by his widow, suspect by local police and fearing for her life,Zoey is on killer’s list.

Will Zoey find who shot Austin?
Will Austin widow get her revenge?
Who you can trust?

Full of action and mysterious behavior in small town crime, this book was engaging read.

Thank you netgalley ,publisher and author for arc.

Vinnie Hansen’s Crime Writer is a gritty murder mystery set in a fictional, vibrant coastal California town, which follows the murder of a police officer who granted ride-along access to a local author in need of inspiration.

I loved the sense of unease throughout. Author Zoey Kozinkski was the only eyewitness and is now a target for the killer. When a car pulled up minutes after the crime was committed, I was wary and wanted to yell at Zoey to be careful. This was an intriguing plotline with great pacing that kept me engaged.

Readers who enjoy books set in small communities, featuring an author as a character or who enjoy solving clues for a murder, will find lots to engage with in this upcoming novel.

I was gifted this copy and was under no obligation to provide a review.

Zoey is suffering from writer's block, so she hopes that a ride along with a police officer will help her creativity flow.
Zoey doesn't expect to witness the officer's horrific murder, or find herself the only witness to the crime.
She needs to find the truth to free herself from becoming a possible suspect.

This is a good story, the subject was interesting but there were times the story dragged on.
