Good historical fiction about the events leading up to what was eventually called “The Trail of Tears”. The writing style was geared toward middle-grade readers, but due to the subject matter, there are tragic, heart-wrenching scenes. Younger readers might be disturbed by these, so I recommend adult guidance. I’m 56 and several parts had me in tears…
The authors’s notes at the end were very informative and interesting. They drove the point home to me just what a blot on American history this forced removal of Native Americans was.
