Initial reaction: Interesting read, but I'm not sure what the author's purpose was.

The biggest draw to this book and these short stories was finishing the last one, and seeing the parallels between them. In that aspect, this was well written and thought out, and I appreciate the time that must have went into the writing and arrangement in that regard. That said, while the writing was direct and easy to read, it also lacked....charm? Elegance? Something that put a personal stamp on it and made it stand out, call it whatever you will. It was competent writing to be sure (which, let's be honest, is starting to get kind of rare in and of itself), but I need more than competence to really draw me in unfortunately. I definitely see the creative spark in these writing though, and would very much like to explore some of the author's other works!
