Giant Steps is a blistering, high-octane finale to Patrick H. Moore’s Nick Crane trilogy, and it absolutely delivers. From the very first page, you’re thrown into Nick Crane’s desperate fight for survival against Marguerite Ferguson and her ruthless Principals, and the tension never lets up.

Nine years after the takedown of Frank Constantine, Crane is hiding out in the Mojave, dodging hit after hit from Marguerite’s vengeful empire. But this time, he and FBI Special Agent Carrie North go on the offensive, determined to bring her down once and for all. What follows is a relentless, tightly plotted sting operation that had me turning the pages late into the night. Every twist felt razor-sharp, every exchange of dialogue crackled with intensity, and the stakes just kept climbing higher.

Nick Crane is one of those rare protagonists who embodies grit, loyalty, and humanity in equal measure. He’s a PI with scars, humor, and just enough cynicism to feel real. His bond with Carrie gives the story its heart, while his team of operatives rounds out a cast that feels both capable and deeply human.

Moore’s prose is quick and cutting, almost cinematic—think Lee Child meets Michael Connelly with a political edge. The Southern California setting feels alive, pulsing with menace and atmosphere, and the action sequences hit like a sledgehammer. What I especially appreciated was how timely the story felt, tackling themes of corruption, abuse of power, and what it means to fight for justice in a broken system.

As the conclusion to the Rogues & Patriots and 27 Days arc, Giant Steps doesn’t just tie up the threads—it explodes them in spectacular fashion. The final showdown between Crane and Marguerite is every bit as brutal and satisfying as fans could hope for.

If you love thrillers with guts, brains, and a fierce sense of justice, this one’s for you. Giant Steps is not just the end of a trilogy—it’s a statement. And it cements Nick Crane as a PI hero you won’t soon forget.

Thank you to the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
