I really enjoyed getting to read this book, it had that element that I was wanting and enjoyed in this type of book. The characters worked in this universe and was everything that I was hoping for and enjoyed in this type of book. Martin Zelder wrote this perfectly and was glad I was able to read this.

Long rambling story of a man's life told in a stream of consciousness style, but in third person. Not my cup of tea. I found the first quarter of the book immensely boring, but I slogged on hoping for some semblance of a story arc that never materialized. It just went on, detailing moments in Maurice's life that seemed unconnected and didn't arrive at any conclusion. The ending was just plain weird. Some may like this style, but it is not my cup of tea.

This novel shows a great sense of humanity, sensitivity and realism. Even though I didn't appreciate the light tone depicting Maurice's psychological development, making the main character look rather silly, I found the last quarter of the book much more interesting. This novel brings the reader to reflect about guilt, trauma, denial, repression of self questioning and feelings. Many of these terms convey negative emotions indeed. However, this novel also brings something big, nearly unbeatable: hope entwined with resilience. A great read I will not forget.
I received a digital copy of this novel from NetGalley and I have voluntarily written an honest review.
