I really, really enjoyed this read! Mia was funny, interesting and I loved her dynamic with Az and his legion.
It was a much slower burn than I’d expected (but I’m assuming the romance will pick up in the next book.) overall very entertaining and fun! The narrator was very good, too!

This gave me CoGaM vibes!!
Literally— The plot has some similarities, except w/ Angels v.s Demons. I was living for it lol.

Our FMC has a combative personality w/ a past that follows her where ever she goes. Living in NYC w/ her bestie (the only one who stuck by her side, a ride or die fr) in a small apartment. Job hunting until she stumbles upon a gig in Hell’s Kitchen 😈

Asmodeus is a broody, Prince of Hell. I mean— What more can you want lol. And his legion? 👀
So curious to know more about them.
I do wish we got a bit more detailed descriptions— That’s my only big critique. As much as their personalities shined, I wasn’t able to fully be drawn into them ‘cause the lack of details. I would love to know the dancers more too!!
They seem like real ones 🫶🏽
As well as our Angels— Like give me more lol.

The storyline def gave me major Loren x Sabine in CoGaM vibes lol. It was a tad bit predictable, but the twist at the end has me gagged!!
‘Cause wdym?! Now I need book 2 lol.

Absolutely incredible story! Honestly one of my top 5 reads of the year. It’s incredibly fast paced and super ADHD friendly. I love how the author integrates the backstory of the characters so fluidly with the main story events.

So much happens in such an efficient, hilarious, and suspenseful way. The main character’s sassy and sarcastic remarks are so refreshing. I also love how she has realistic takes on some of the paranormal/fantasy components and recognizes the dangers associated with what other characters are asking of her. It makes the story feel so plausible.

Towards the very end, I thought I was going to be annoyed with how it left off but the epilogue actually left me incredibly excited for the next book.

I listened to this as an audiobook and I have to give kudos to the narrator because she did a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life!

If you’re looking for a fast paced, paranormal/fantasy thriller that will have you chuckling, then this is the perfect read for you.

Great paranormal romance!

I loved this serie starter full of demons, angels and other supernatural beings. The plot utilized interspecies prejudice and politicization as well as the fake dating trope.

I liked the reader and the story 4.5 stars. I loved our life-crushing but unyielding FMC and I definitely plan to continue the series.

Thanks to publisher Tantor Media | Tantor Audio and NetGalley for the early audiobook review copy!

The premise sounded awesome, but the story didn’t quite deliver. Some parts dragged, and I kept waiting for that big “wow” moment that never showed up. Not awful, just middle-of-the-road for me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5.

Quick Summary: A devils, demons, angels, werewolf, and humans fantasy romance

My Review: Devilish Deal by Jenna Wolfhart is book #1 in the Demons After Dark: Covenant series. It was originally released in 2021. The audiobook is scheduled for release on 9/9/25.

About the Book: "...bad memories, an empty bank account, and... a mysterious, sinfully hot man... a literal demon.

My soul—and my body—can totally survive this…right?"

In My Own Words: A young woman who has endured betrayals and hardships secures a job with a supernatural being who presents with a sinful sex appeal and unspoken secrets.

About the Characters: Asmodeus and his Legion were a more than meets the eye kind of group. The more I learned about them, the more I wanted to know. They completely flipped the script with their actions and behaviors. The whole dark vs light angle was appealing. When the counter group came into play, it was all I could do to try to figure things out.

Mia was such a tragic character. I loved that because it gave her depth. She had a strength about her and a sense of honor. She also had a good amount of courage. She was the type of character who would sacrifice herself for her loved ones, even as it came at a cost to her.

Asmodeus and Mia as a fake couple served it up. From their initial meeting to their cliffhanger ending, they had me clutched. The witty banter, the magnetic chemistry, the touch her and die energy, and all the other things that shall not be named worked. Everything about them was captivating.

The mix of supernatural beings and humans made for interesting reading/listening. The details and descriptions about the intermingling, the history, and the ultimate plan was so well done.

About the Conflict: There were a number of layers when it came to the aspect of conflict. Internal and external conflict drove the story forward. I appreciated it because it kept me guessing.

About the Audiobook: This novel was narrated by Madeleine Dauer. She did an incredible job giving each character a distinguishable voice. I was so wrapped up in her portrayals that I listened in one sitting. I was glued to my seat.

My Final Say: This was a winner - a diamond in the rough. I was thoroughly entertained by it. I liked the featured romance, the dark and fantastical elements, the world building, the cliffhanger ending, and the big what approach to what comes next for several of the characters. Without any hesitation, I can easily say that I plan to read the entire series.

Other: Readers who enjoy a bit of fantasy with their romances, a spot of mystery with their adventures, and a little good with their bad boys may like this book.

I picked up the audiobook of Devilish Deal on a whim, and I’m so glad I did! Madeleine Dauer was an excellent narrator—she really brought the characters to life. The story kept me hooked, with a few surprises that actually caught me off guard (always a win in my book).

This was my first Jenna Wolfhart read, and I’ve already added more of her books to my TBR. Excited to jump into book two!

Devilish Deal was a fun read with a solid premise, but I found the main character very unlikeable (oh woe is me type). The plot had potential, though it often felt inconsistent, like how she somehow forgot supernatural beings existed, despite her best friend being a werewolf. That kind of selective memory made the story feel a bit forced. The characters were also quite one-dimensional, which made it tough to stay invested.

I love stories where I can guess what's coming and still be surprised, and where the characters feel real enough to root for. This had the ingredients, but it didn’t quite come together for me.

Thank you for the ALC. All thoughts are my own.
