As a fan of shows like ‘Air Crash Investigation’ I was intrigued to read this book. The true story of two major disasters in the same city on the same day sparked my interest but I found the book too disjointed to fully enjoy.

There were no chapters and the narrative jumped from person to person and location to location without warning creating a jarring effect. I struggled to keep up with where I was without the disaster, the same feeling many of those involved had.The author tried to introduce too many people and it was easy to forget who everyone was.

Overall an interesting but sometimes overly technical overview of a major disasters. I would have enjoyed more interviews with the survivors and those involved but it piqued my interest to go and research these disasters more.

The Worst Day by Bruce Goldfarb is a fast-paced look at the crash of Air Florida Flight 90 in Washington DC in January 1982, along with a Metrorail derailment on the same day in DC that was long overshadowed by the Air Florida crash. Most will not remember the Metrorail incident and Goldfarb brings it to light in this short but informative read. The writing is crisp. The author does a good job recounting the lessons learned from both incidents. A solid read. Thank you to #netgalley and #steerforth for the opportunity to preview this book.

A good, straightforward account of two critical events that doesn't sensationalise. Lots of useful information about how the plane crash and train derailment contributed to improvements in aviation and rail safety and the failures that led to the incidents in the first place.
