Mare by Emily Haworth-Booth was a novel I was looking forward to reading as I subscribe to Mslexia magazine and this was the winner. The quality of the writing really shines through and has a poetic quality that sucks you in. Reading Mare I was reminded of the experience of reading The Lodgers by Holly Pester which is another of my favourites.
Haworth-Booth explores the experience of being a not-mother and the ways in which other sorts of relationships can filter into that. I will definitely look out for whatever she writes next and firmly recommend this book.
