Took me a couple of tries to finish this. At first I could not see where it was going with the various stories, and didn't hook me in at all. I did return and finish it, and thought it well written (if a bit gory) except that the beginning should have a better 'hook'. I had read another book by this author, which I had enjoyed, but found this one harder to get into.
