Breaking His Rules is a captivating love story with depth and heart. This romance goes beyond the glitz and luxury, showing a playboy brought to his knees by love he never expected. The heroine doesn’t just challenge his world—she transforms it, drawing out his vulnerability and proving that even the most guarded heart can be healed. Tender, passionate, and beautifully romantic, this is a story about falling hard and finding forever

VH Nicolson you have done it again, hooked me in from page one, although I knew this would happen before I started. 24 hours later and the book is read!

There was me thinking no one could beat Nathan Hart, not even one of his brothers but say hello to Max Hart, who has set himself some rules but let’s face it aren’t some rules meant to be broken?? They definitely are where Paige is concerned 🔥🥰

The chemistry between these two is something else! Single parent trope, enemies to lovers, both professionals and sparks exploding in every direction.

There are twists and turns and even some parts where I was laughing with the banter between the brothers!

Don’t hesitate to read this, you will not be disappointed! The series just gets better and I cannot wait to read Eli and Cole’s books 🥰

Thank you for the Arc read and thank you VH Nicolson for sharing your exceptional talent with us, how you bring stories to life is just brilliant 👏❤️

Breaking His Rules is the second book in the Billionaire Hart Brothers series of connected standalones, and it can definitely be read as a standalone or as an entry point to the series.

I thought the first book, Breaking His Law, was amazing, but this one was something else. I binged it this evening, unable to put it down for even a minute. It was actual perfection. I love a FMC who's perceived as an ice queen and I love a charming, confident, ladies-man MMC who falls hard for her, and only her. This might seem like a really random segue, but my favourite Elsie Silver book is Reckless, because of the combination of Winter and Theo together, and I fell just as hard for Paige and Max here. Honestly, I think Reckless and Breaking His Rules are two of my favourite ever romance novels, so I clearly have a type, whether it's rival divorce lawyers or a bull rider and a doctor!

Breaking His Rules was both sexy and heartwarming at the same time. This book was just made for me - I adored it.

Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy from NetGalley but this is my voluntary and honest review.

I really enjoyed this romance novel. The author's writing hooked me in from the very first page and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. There was plenty of content to keep me interested and I loved the mix of characters plus there was some spicy scenes. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author.

Breaking His Rules by VH Nicolson
Published by Boldwood Books – thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my gifted ARC.

Let me set the scene: I’m curled up with my Kindle, blanket burrito achieved, fully expecting another billionaire-romance-meets-courtroom-fantasy. You know the type. Brooding alpha male, emotionally unavailable, probably allergic to commitment and vegetables, with abs you could lose your will to live over. But Breaking His Rules didn’t just play the hits—it remixed them. VH Nicolson took every one of my favorite tropes, cranked them up to eleven, and then had the audacity to make me feel things. How dare she.

Max Hart is the kind of man who walks into a room and immediately raises your blood pressure, either because he’s infuriating or too attractive to process. Usually both. He’s rich (of course), powerful (obviously), and has a list of dating rules so emotionally stunted I’m amazed he’s not in therapy… until he meets Paige Bradshaw. Paige is brilliant, ambitious, and frankly, too good for Max’s nonsense—but unfortunately for her (and delightfully for us), she has already slept with him before realizing who he is. Anonymously. In the dark. In a dating event she swore was just a one-time thrill. Plot twist: Max is that guy. Of course he is.

Cue the chaos.

The chemistry between Max and Paige is nuclear. Forget slow burn—this is immediate combustion. Their enemies-to-lovers dynamic is fast-paced, fierce, and full of razor-sharp dialogue. I laughed out loud more than once, especially during their legal sparring, which somehow manages to be both sexy and savage. It’s like Suits, but if Harvey and Donna had unresolved sexual tension, kissed in dark corners, and regularly threatened to ruin each other’s careers while secretly wanting to cuddle. And look, I’m not proud of how much I loved it—but here we are.

Max’s character arc is one of my favorite parts. He starts as your standard-issue billionaire playboy: smug, emotionally unavailable, and swanning around with a tragic backstory and a refusal to commit. But slowly—so slowly you don’t even notice until you’re halfway in—he starts unraveling. And it’s glorious. Watching this man, who thinks he has his life neatly compartmentalized, completely lose his mind over one woman and her kid? Peak content. By the end, I wasn’t even mad about how soft he got. In fact, I was ready to hand him a “Best Book Boyfriend of 2025” sash and let him carry me into the sunset.

And Paige. Oh, Paige. She’s the real MVP here. She’s funny, sharp, fiercely independent, and refreshingly flawed. She doesn’t fall into the usual heroine traps. She makes bad decisions, doubts herself, walks into emotional situations with both eyes open and still trips over her own feelings. She’s real. When she says:

“I’m not going. Maybe I will. Shit. I’m definitely going,”
I felt that. Deeply. That’s not just Paige debating a bad idea. That’s all of us on a Friday night with too much eyeliner and a bottle of wine saying, what’s the worst that could happen?

There’s also a subplot involving Paige’s son Alfie, and let me just say—this book handled the single mom angle like a pro. It wasn’t a throwaway trope. It was tender, grounded, and gave the romance real stakes. Watching Max soften toward Alfie, building a connection that’s more than just a plot device? That’s the stuff that makes your cold, cynical heart thaw. I even found myself getting emotional at parts, and I don’t do sentimental. But VH Nicolson knows how to write with heart and heat—and she doesn’t make you choose.

The spice? Oh honey, it’s not just there. It’s practically its own character. But it never overshadows the emotional core of the story. Every steamy scene drives the relationship forward. It’s desire, yes, but also vulnerability and trust. And some truly elite-level tension. There’s a moment—no spoilers—where Max has to choose, and I actually yelled “DO IT” at my Kindle like it was a horror movie. That’s how invested I was.

And while we’re talking story mechanics, let’s give credit where it’s due: pacing? Perfect. Dialogue? Snappy and real. Secondary characters? Memorable without stealing the spotlight. This is book two in the Billionaire Hart Brothers series, and while you can read it as a standalone, fair warning—you’re going to immediately want to go back and read book one. And then stalk VH Nicolson’s Instagram for updates on book three, because this woman writes like a machine and a magician.

In short, Breaking His Rules is sexy, smart, and surprisingly heartfelt. It’s enemies-to-lovers done right, with characters who make dumb choices for good reasons, and fall for each other in ways that feel messy, earned, and entirely swoon-worthy. It’s about letting go of your rules, facing your fears, and yes—breaking a few hearts along the way. Including your own.

Five glittering, sarcastic, cinnamon-roll-in-disguise stars.

Paige Bradshaw, "one night, one stranger, one mistake, I cannot forget".
Max Hart, "will break all my rules for her".

The Billionaire Hart brothers book two.

Oh Wow!! yes Wow!!.
This read stole my heart big time.
These two are definitely made for each other.
The story makes the characters jump out the pages.
Sexy, dynamic and full of love.

If breaking the rules means yes to eternity, then so be it.
I LOVED IT.

I am obsessed with this series!!

I was luckily enough to get book 1 of the Billionaire Hart Brothers as a trope so was excited to see this one in my mail box!!

Max & Paiges story is my favourite of the two so far! I love “single parent” trope but loved the twist of this one 🤌🏼

Max is such a golden retriever under the “playboy” label and I am here for it! The way he was ready to lose it all for Paige and Alfie had me weak!

Honestly can’t recommend this book enough or even the series! I just binged this book in a few hours as I couldn’t put it down!!

The spice was spicing!! Also loved Paige’s thoughts to herself especially this one
“I’m not going. Maybe I will. Shit. I’m definitely going.”
If that doesn’t sum up being a woman perfectly.
