I read this book ages ago and loved it. I don't have much to say, but I did order it for my library at the time.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to go through with this. I might come back someday.

I would like to thank the publisher and netgalley for providing me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

Bee (short for Beatrix) arrives in the town of Zeewal and finds herself apprentice to a baker. Through her work with him, she discovers she has a gift for making sweet treats. When the mage at the royal palace calls for her baked goods, Bee meets Princess Anika and discovers that the young woman is headed for a forced marriage. The mage wants Anika out of the way so he can rule the kingdom all by himself. Bee is determined to prevent that from happening, but she won’t be able to do it alone. It’ll take a blacksmith’s apprentice, a ship full of pirates, magical trees, and one determined hedgehog to save Anika and help Bee find her own family at the same time.

Author Diane Zahler mixes a variety of elements to make this middle grade novel charming and entertaining for target readers and adults alike. The friendships hold strong and true, and just when it looks like the story will take a turn toward the typical Zahler adds a dash of a surprise. Readers will find themselves delighted over and over again with the book, all the way to the action-packed ending. Don’t let the novel’s length deter you; every page will keep readers engaged. I recommend readers Bookmark Baker’s Magic.

Thanks for the opportunity to read this title. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get into it and so will pass on purchasing this for my library. I will not post any negative reviews so as to not skew this book's rating.
