This is the first book in the Tales of Valdur series.
THE GUNS OF IVREA is a great, swashbuckling historical adventure with pirates, mercenary kings, ancient hatreds and more! Beal's writing is great, as are his characters. The plot is fast-paced, but also substantial. A really good start to a series - very much looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
