A bizarre read. Reading Deborah Levy is always a smooth ride, but I struggle to really 'get' what she's writing about most of the time.

A good beach read, I guess?

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.

There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

I like the way Deborah Levy writes and this is good - poetic - but not the best. I’m glad I read it though and did enjoy it. Swimming home is so much better.

This mother daughter tale from Deborah Levy made the perfect holiday read - light but thought provoking

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this intriguing novel. This was perfect summer reading, although I read it in (sometimes) sunny England and not sunny Spain, as per the setting of the book. The way the author described the setting and beach just made me want to be on holidays; having holidayed in the Andalucia region I could very much imagine the intense heat.

Reading of the fractured mother-daughter relationship, and the effect it was having on each character made for interesting reflections. I found the writing style generally a bit confused. Sometimes I followed the story, and other times I found it jumping around. I did though want to see the story to it's conclusion, and see if each character would begin to resolve her quandaries.

Such a great book. A story of self-discovery, set to a backdrop of roaring heat and personal exploration.
