"Summer at the Cornish Café" is the first book in the Penwith Trilogy and I was looking forward to read this book.

The book is nice and an enjoyable read but I was missing some things in the story. First, I couldn't really connect with the characters. Generally Demi and Cal were likable characters but I found them rather shallow and I was missing some warm-hearted character traits. The love story was also lacking in romance.

The story itself was enjoyable but I found it very jumpy and trying to fit in many different stories. Sometimes I felt pretty overwhelmed with everything that was happening.

The setting was really nice and I liked what Demi and Cal wanted to make out of the old cottages but the author could have created a bit more atmosphere. I am hoping this will work better with the Christmas setting in the next book.

Thank you for the chance to read this book. Loved the story from the beginning, great characters with oodles of stories to tell, definitely haven't even touched the tip of the iceberg yet in Cal and Demi's story. Great intro to s new author for me and I'm off to downland the other 2 books as i cannot wait to too what happens next

As always, a new book from Phillipa Ashley is exciting and something I always look forward to. Summer at the Cornish Cafe is warm, romantic and just so lovely!

The start to one of my favourite series of books following the relationship between Demi and Cal as they seemingly rescue each other from their own demons. It's very much a story about new beginnings, new opportunities and newfound affection. Loved it.
