I love mythology and stories with labyrinths in them, so I really should have loved this book, but I just never really connected with the main character. She was so timid and such a doormat pretty much from the get go. Something kept me reading, though, even when there was what I felt was gratuitous violence, and by the end, she had grown a bit of a backbone, and showed some promise. She began to learn to count on herself and she learned survival skills, both of which she could have used throughout the book, but I was glad she started to change at last. Like I said, something kept me reading, and I look forward to seeing how she does in the next book in the series.

3/5 stars.

Good day! Before anything else, I would like to extend my deepest, sincerest gratitude for sending me a digital review copy of this book (via NetGalley). Thank you very much for the opportunity!

Unfortunately, I am sad to say that I have lost interest in this particular title, and consequently, I have decided against finishing it. Forcing myself to finish a book I am disinterested in (solely for the sake of finishing it) can only negatively impact the entirety of my reading experience, which, in turn, could result in me writing an unfairly negative review. That is a circumstance I hope to avoid. With that said, I believe that the best course of action is for me to simply not read it and to refrain from publicly posting any feedback regarding this book.

I hope you understand where I'm coming from. Again, thank you for the lovely opportunity!

Honestly I was really confused with this book for a while. I read the blurb because I don't usually go into novels without reading it and it gave me nothing so I went in not knowing much about it. And I continued to know nothing while reading it for a while. It got better as the novel kept going on, but still. Not a favorite of mine. I enjoyed it enough, and thought the writing was okay, but the plot didn't draw me in so I was left wondering what was going on at times. it didn't hook me, and I think this novel just wasn't for me.

I unfortunately was not able to read this book before the archive date. Someday I hope to read and review it for my blog.

This book was not what I expected at all. The first half was so graphic that I had a hard time getting into the actual story. The writing was mildly crude but extremely effective in setting the story framework. I also had a hard time connecting with the main character. The second half revealed an intriguing narrative that I flew through. I would recommend this novel, but with a graphic content warning and a recommendation that they stick it out until the second half. I will be interested in the sequel.

I received a free copy of this for review from NetGalley**

3 stars. While this book had promise and sounded like something I would devour it took me a while to get through the first half of the book. I decided to put it down and pick it up again when the mood struck and I'm not sure where it went but I no longer have it on my kindle and can't download it again as it's been archived. Can't see myself buying it to continue.

I've always loved this myth. Icarus, the angel who was tricked into flying into the sun and then burned to death. Find a place, this book, where a society worships him. Sixteen kids are chosen to go into a labyrinth where a tomb is placed for Icarus to "heal". They could be come angels themselves should they find some tomb.

Overall an interesting YA book with a premise that had a lot of potential. Just needed a bit more world and character building. Debut novel though so A+ for entertainment value.

It took me a while to get around to this book but I devoured it within a day. The writing is clear. The plot is familiar but elevates what has become a familiar trope (the maze, greek myth) with an injection of clever modernization. Not only that but I loved the approach of having a completely unconventional response from an mc. It was intriguing, well paced, and clearly written. Definitely recommended.

This was a really entertaining read! I rated it 3.5 out of 5 stars. I knew that I would enjoy it after reading the premise, and I'm so glad that was the case. While I did enjoy it, I didn't love it as much as I was hoping to. The story starts with a bang and is super interesting at first, but it really starts to drag on around the middle. The main character was particularly frustrating and I wish that she had more of a stronger personality so that readers would favor her. All in all, this was a really strong debut and a great read!

Oh the depth that your soul can take you!! This book is deeply disturbing if you just look at the surface subjects as its very graphic and very violent. But once you accept that aspect it is a wonderfully written story that flows seamlessly through the characters and subjects. I'm not sure I would shelve this anywhere to close to the Juvenile section of my library but its a captivating read none the less.

This was a pretty good take on the myth of Icarus it was unique and the mysterious plot kept me reading but the characters fell really flat for me. I would be interested to see what Smith comes up with next because he is a great storyteller but I was hoping for more out of this book.

While I really enjoyed the premise of the story, I unfortunately could not get into this book no matter how many times I tried. Did not finish.
