I’ve been following the Martini Club from the very beginning , the story of retired spies living a so called quiet life in the small town of Purity, Maine.
In this episode, Maggie Bird and her friends get involved in a plot to assassinate Russian defectors when a Russian scientist is killed during a conference organised by Ingrid.
As the bodies mount up it becomes clear to Ingrid that the latest murders are connected to her past leading to someone she knew “extremely well” from her previous life appearing and offering her a job.
This was a fast paced and entertaining read which has our retired spies flying to Europe in their quest to find out what is going on. Even Lloyd, Ingrid’s analyst husband gets involved in the field in an effort to save his wife.
I couldn’t put this book down, it was that good- Tess Gerritsen certainly knows how to hold a reader’s attention. I really liked all the characters who epitomise the fact that older people can still be just as active and useful as their younger counterparts.
In this book it is Ingrid who takes centre stage with Maggie a close second as they race to solve the mystery and close in on the killer. Girl power rules!
This book comes high recommended both as a stand alone and also as part of the Martini Club series. If you haven’t read these books yet you will be in for a real treat.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.
