I'm embarassed I took so long to read and review this book, and I'm so glad I finally picked it up. I've never read any books by Gail Z. Martin before, and this seemed like a good place to start. As soon as I finished this, I bought the first book in Chronicles of the Necromancer, so obviously, I want to read more.
This book is a series of short stories that cover the early life of Jonmarc. From the introduction, it sounds as if some of the stories are alluded to in Chronicles, so I'd guess for those who read that series first, this would also be a satisfying book. I thought the stories were well done, and flowed together nicely, following the character from the time he was a young boy. It has an epic fantasy feel.

I loved this book but not overly surprised as I have loved all her books so far. I liked that the book was made up of short stories but that they continued on from each other too.
