A “John Grisham” that has no court room scenes- this is a real departure from his normal books but it was both gripping and fast paced!
When a young honeymooning couple are kidnapped in Paris, their families are devastated and don’t know what to do- should they pay the huge ransom or contact the authorities?
Eventually the ransom is paid but only Chelsea returns home. Paul remains lost and no one knows where he is. As the kidnappers’ motivation becomes clearer the tension ratchets up and it is revealed there are other captives.
A young lawyer, ex military, is recruited as bait and trained up to survive a kidnapping so that the other victims can be traced and rescued.
This is a very exciting read and captivated me from the very first page. I simply could not put it down! I liked the characters, particularly Stuart who was willing to sacrifice himself to secure the release of the kidnapped men. Rae Claire was also admirable in that she was the one who planned the mission and was also brave enough to risk her own life. My only proviso was that it did contain some rather dark descriptions of torture which were hard to read although these were pertinent to the plot so I would not suggest this book if you are of a delicate nature.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable read for me and definitely highly recommended.
