Like with most sequels and second book in a series, The Shadow Hour isn't as good as its predecessor. While the plot itself was reasonable, the romantic relationships going on is rather frustrating. I know love triangles are still a big pull in for young teen audiences, but for me they're not a bit bland and annoying when they take up a good chunk of the book.

Another frustrating things about book sequels, is the cliff-hanger ending. I'm looking forward to reading the next book,. However, I really wish some authors would just skip book two and write a few chapters in book three, so we can quickly get to the drama.

I didn't get on with the first book and decided not to continue with the series. Funny, but not my cup of tea. Thank you for approving me though.

I really loved Grey's debut and this was a very strong follow up to that. She has a very light and engaging writing style that draws the reader in to this magical world and brings her characters to startling life.

I quite enjoyed the first book in Melissa Grey's urban fantasy trilogy, The Girl at Midnight. However, I found that by the time I got around to the second book - even pre-publication - the first one had already become forgettable. It's a shame, as I liked the set-up of the début, but reading this follow-up I found the characters less engaging and the stakes unenthralling. Perhaps a standalone would have worked better, as this trilogy had potential when ratcheting up the tension and making the most of its premise.

I absolutely loved The Girl at Midnight and the minute I finished it I just knew I had to get my hands on a copy of The Shadow Hour.

Melissa Grey does not disappoint, back in the world of Echo and Caius. The Shadow Hour was definitely the book were character development was explored and I'm so thankful for this. I was able to get to know the main and secondary characters in a whole new way. I adore this book and the series and highly recommend it for fantasy lovers.
