I've had this sitting on my Kindle for over a year. Great cover, intriguing premise. I fancied some science fiction this week and Assimilation seemed to fit the bill.

Once I started reading, I remembered why I'd been so keen to request an advance copy from Net Galley last year. The concept is intriguing... if you die young, and your brain isn't damaged, you can be brought back to life in another body. Simple. Except that it isn't.

This novel helped me understand what it feels like to to feel totally uncomfortable in your own body. As a teacher, this would be too 'adult' for the curriculum, but there's certainly a place for it as a recommendation to older teens, especially those who are struggling with their own identity, or for anyone wanting to develop an empathy for others. Not a bad narrative, either!
