I was expecting something more whimsical and lyrical because of the description but I found the writing style to be kind of bland.

Well I expected odd and lyrical from the blurb and there is no double that Penny Farthing is both odd and lyrical.
There is no plot at all in this book. Instead there is a girl who is odd and loves her Penny Farthing bicycle.
You will hate the word Penny by the end as it is probably said a thousand times in 174 pages. Not just as our gals name but in the writing and descriptions as well. It got old fast for me.

He author references Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass a lot. So much so that I can't help but draw parallels between the two. But where Alice is quirky, innocent and fun; Penny is aloof, annoying and pretentious.

While there may be some clever wit in this book at he end of the day I couldn't wait for the mere 174 pages to be over.

Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review. Don't believe me? Check out the other books I've had eARCs for that I gave great reviews to. I always give my opinion whether good or bad. ;)
