I was apprehensive about reading Curious Minds for a long time. Mainly because I knew it
would be almost impossible not to draw comparisons between this book and Janet
Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. And that is exactly what happened for at least 60% of
the book. Once I was able to push that way of thinking out of my mind, I really enjoyed the
story.

Emerson Knight was refreshingly weird. Sure, he had looks, brains and money but he
wasn’t perfect and was rather introverted and quirky. While at times Knight felt
outlandishly written he was by far my favorite character from the story. The chemistry and
humorous banter that develops between him and Riley Moon was naturally built and has
me really wanting to see where book two will take them.

In retrospect the “Mystery” aspect of the story feels a little forgettable but that is probably
a me thing, since I read so many books.

I have never read anything by Phoef Sutton before, but his writing style seemed to blend
rather well with the Evanovich style characters and story. Which after looking him up and
realizing that he wrote for Boston Legal makes so much more sense now.
Overall the book is a fun and satisfying read.

*I’ve read and listened to both the Ebook version and the audiobook. And while Lorelei King
is my favorite narrator and does a wonderful job, I’ve come to know her as the voice of
Stephanie Plum so hearing her as the voice of Riley made it harder to not compare the
books.

I love Janet Evanovich but...sadly, this book just couldn't hold my attention. I don't know if it was the characters, the situation or if I just wasn't in the right place to enjoy the story. Sorry! This won't stop me from reading Janet's next book, and hey, maybe at a later date I'll give this another try and love it.

Riley Moon works for Blane-Grunwald, a financial company who only handles the most wealthy's accounts. Emerson Knight is one of those clients, and he is an eccentric as they come. When Riley is told to go to his house to discuss his accounts with him, she doesn't know what she is in for. Greeted with all kinds of creatures roaming the property, Emerson isn't thrilled to see Riley instead of Gunter his usual analyst. When Riley explains that Gunter is missing and she is here to take his place, Emerson enlists Riley's help to find Gunter and find out what is really going on at Blane-Grunwald.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This book was really interesting, and like true Janet Evanovich fashion, it wasn't short on humor either.

Emerson and Riley discover that the gold being held by Blane-Grunwald is fake. When they make this discovery, they embark on a mission to find out where the gold is and how to get it back. Faced with obstacles all along the way and the Grunwald family with their high positions in the United States Government trying to stop the mission, Emerson and Riley won't stop until they get to the bottom of the issue. They both surprise each other with their determination and strength and together, nothing can bring them down.

Curious minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton.
This was a good read with likeable characters. I did find some of it slow. But I liked the story. 4*.

I have already read a lot of book of Janet Evanovich and I really liked all of them. There is suspense but also a lot of funny parts in this one. This time she worked in a partnership, but you still recognize her typical style. No need to say that I liked this story as well. For me, more sarcasm could be added to make it even more fun.
I think you either love or hate her books, but for me the mixture of genres is refreshing.

To start with i'm already a fan of Evanovich's other series involving Stephanie Plum so i went into this book knowing what kind of things i would be getting with this book. Basically you get a daft mystery being solved by a few highly interesting characters. Nothing too terrible happens to anyone, i mean a few people die and there is some mild tension, but overall this is a book that those who are a little squeamish (like me) can read with no worries.

We follow Emerson Knight, an eccentric billionaire who thinks nothing of having wild animals roaming his enormous mansion. Our second lead character is Riley Moon, who has skills that Knight fails to have like being able to drive a car and some sense of her own mortality. They are trying to find out why one of the biggest banks in the USA is stopping Knight from looking at his own gold. Things go interestingly awry for both our good guys, and the bad guys they eventually root out.

Overall, this is an entertaining book, it will not take you forever to get through but then again it is a really basic story line. The pleasure in Evanovich's books comes not from a twisty turny plot but from the comedy and the loveable characters. I'll definitely be reading the others in this series as and when they're published.

Take a handful of stereotypes: the eccentric billionaire, very cultured, but socially incompetent; the classic American girl who grew up as a tomboy, but that no one knows why, at some point decided to put on a suit and go to work in a large investment bank; a family with longings for power and reminiscences of Nazism (all but one, that you need the good brother) and lots and lots of gold. Mix it all with the help of unlikely adventures, deviated secret services and a psychopathic murderer so resistant to his own death to at some point suggests being an alien and you obtain the plot of this book, which is not serious enough to be a real thriller and not enough humorous to be a caricature of a thriller.
Fortunately, there is a large craft in writing, and it's a nice reading before going to bed.
I thank Headline and Netgalley for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really love Janet Evanovich's writing so when Curious Minds came up on Netgally I had to request it and I was over the moon when I was approved. I was so excited that I opened it up straight away.

I did really enjoy this book, I didn't love it as much as some of Evanovich's other work but I did like it. For a start this is a book that doesn't take itself very seriously and is an awful lot of fun. I really enjoyed the funny storyline and writing even when it bordered on the absurd. This really was my type of funny so I breezed through this book laughing a lot on the way.

The characters was brilliant. I really liked Emerson, he was wacky and funny and charming. Riley was a lot more serious but not in a bad way. I found that they really balanced each other out. There wasn't really that much romance between them but the chemistry was definitely there. I hope that they will get together in the next book in the series.

Despite all the fun I had with this book there was something missing from it that meant I didn't enjoy it as much as I could have. I cannot put my finger on it but I just wanted something a little more.

If you have ever read anything by Janet Evanovich, you know her mysteries are funny, quirky and usually a little over the top. That is what I expected when I picked this book up and that is what I got. I enjoyed this first book in this new series by Janet Evanovich and Phoeff Sutton.

Emerson Knight is an eccentric billionaire who just wants to see his gold. Riley Moon works for mega-bank Blane-Grunwald, is a country girl from a small town in Texas who went to Harvard. They call her Moonbeam at the bank where she is a junior analyst and has only worked for a week. Emerson and Riley make quite a pair. He is rich, handsome, has no social skills and a crazy life style. He lives in a mansion, with a menagerie, can't keep help due to the messes they make in the house, and is known as Mr. Mysterioso. His Aunt Myra lives with him and is a force to be reckoned with herself, and his cousin lives in an RV in front of the house. Riley does not know what she is in for. She is a smart, Harvard grad who just wants to make it big in her chosen field.

When Riley is sent to find out what Emerson wants from the bank she is in for a surprise. All he wants to to see his gold, but that is not as easy as it sounds. When she is told to follow him and report back to the company about his actions, she thinks she has a bit of a babysitting job, little does she know. As they investigate more and more on the whereabouts of his gold, they find out that the Grunwald family are up to their necks in espionage. Can they stay alive long enough to find Emerson's gold?

There were times, well, more than once - where the situations that Knight and Moon got into were -as I said before - over the top-.... but- I went into reading this book with that in mind.

This is a quick enjoyable read with several humorous situations as well as over the top exploits. Go in with that expectation and you will enjoy the story, root for Emerson and Riley as well as laugh at their experiences. I am looking forward to the next on in the series.

Some lightweight fluff from Evanovich. While the plot is a bit different between each of Evanovich's books, the characters are types. This book has a ditzy but brilliant bank/finance worker (shocking I know), hot rich guy, etc, etc. This is a good book for someone looking for some escapism.
