A book about a person who talks to their pet? This should be right up my alley. However, that is really the only thing that happens in this book and I'm not even sure the cat is listening to Maggie and it might be contemplating trying to drown her during her nightly bath. Maggie spends the book telling her cat about the other cats she takes care of for her job and whining about her sister's upcoming wedding. Maggie doesn't like anything, talks about being overweight, talks about food ("-Yum!" every single time), but at the same time does nothing about being overweight. Now normally this would lead to some introspection during the course of the book and a change being made by the end. Maggie finds out she is a lesbian, Maggie goes on a diet and loses some weight, Maggie decides she is happy with her current weight and quits complaining about it, Maggie gets a boyfriend, Maggie does anything. But no, Maggie does nothing. Other than her sister being someone's wife at the end of the book, nothing has changed. I don't get it.

I received an advanced copy of this book on netgalley in return for an honest review.

Maggie is an overweight woman in her late twenties obsessed with marriage, babies, and cats. When Maggie is asked to be the Maid of Honor in her sister's wedding, Maggie regrettably accepts. The following anxieties and commentary are...well...

I really wanted to like this book, but I did not, at all. The idea of a fuller figured woman, who loves and cares for cats, hangs out with no one, and has a swift snarky sense of humor seems like a great idea, however, the character, Maggie, does not *feel* real. I feel this is partially due to the author being male trying to write a female inner dialogue.

I love snarky commentary as much as the next guy, but this book is nothing BUT snarky inner-dialogue. The writing style was strange and unpleasant. Every possible "fat girl" stereotype was mentioned and fulfilled. This was just not the book for me.

Needless to say I was very disappointed and gave up 38% of the way through this book.

Thank you netgalley and Dog Ear Publishing for letting me read this book.
