A fabulous Christmas read that is perfect for a cold winters day curled up with a cup of hot chocolate. It’s a very easy read but still very enjoyable.

As some of you may know I love Jenny Colgan. I think she’s a fantastic author and her books always seem to leave me with a warm feeling inside. So, I was really excited when I found out she was releasing a Christmas book featuring the Little Beach Street Bakery. I was in the need to get into the Christmas spirit early so I knew this was something I had to read.

Polly Waterford loves running the Little Beach Street Bakery on the Cornish costal island of Mount Polbearne. Christmas always inspires Polly to make special treats for the festive season and the one thing she loves more than that is her boyfriend Huckle. This year she is determined to make their Christmas the best one ever. However, when Polly’s best friend Kerensa shares with her a secret that threatens the lives of not just Polly and Huckle but all of their friends, the happy future she has envisioned looks uncertain. Can Polly get things on track and sort out the mess she has got herself into so everyone can have a merry Christmas?

First things first, this book really did get me feeling festive, much so that I just wanted Christmas to turn up there and then. Also hearing about all them Christmassy bakes just made me hungry. But that is always bound to happen if you read a Jenny Colgan book. She writes about food in such a delectable way, that at times you just want to eat the pages. Mad but true.

It was really great to delve into the world of Mount Polbearne and it’s residents again. I loved finding out about them in the first two books and it was great to see how they have grown since Summer at the Little Beach Street Bakery. I enjoyed reading about Jayden (who I had a soft spot for in the first two books) and seeing how far he had come and how his life was on the up. I also enjoyed reading about how serious Polly and Huckle had become and how they were building a life together. It was so heartwarming.

There were definitely a few tense moments throughout the story, and at times I wasn’t sure what was going to happen and I was left feeling shocked. You thought the story would go one way, but then it went in the completely opposite direction. For a chick lit it was quite gripping and I didn’t want to stop reading. It was good to see how these characters dealt with issues that they hadn’t dealt with before and in some ways it made me see them in a different light. However, there are also some light-hearted moments in the book, one involving Polly, Huckle and their puffin Neil going on a walk. That scene made me laugh out loud.

I throughly enjoyed Christmas at the Little Beach Street Bakery. It definitely filled me with festive cheer and made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Jenny Colgan’s writing style is easy to read and this helped me become utterly absorbed into the story. I don’t think I have found a book of hers that I haven’t liked yet, and I can tell you I don’t think I ever will.

I just never got around to reading this one but hopefully this Christmas! I felt a little fatigued by Colgan’s books and so it just wasn’t one I picked up last year unfortunately. Hoping I’ll feel differently later this year

This is the first book I’ve ever read by Jenny Colgan and boy did I enjoy it. Although this book is the third in a series you don’t need to have read the others to enjoy this book. The story follows Polly, Huckle and their rescued Puffin Neil (I want a Neil of my own) who live in an old lighthouse in a very remote part of Cornwall. Huckle wants to settle down and marry the love of his life Polly (who makes the most amazing baked goods in town) but she has attachment issues and doesn’t think the happy ever after exists for anyone so is reluctant to make any plans for their future. Polly is also keeping a huge secret for her best friend which doesn’t go down well with Huckle when he finds out – this makes him question all his thoughts and feelings for Polly. I really enjoyed this book, it wasn’t an over the top festive romance that makes you roll your eyes and declare war on happy ever afters but it has enough of the smushy stuff to hit you in the right places and to make you feel all festive and fuzzy inside. Definitely a feel-good festive read.

Jenny Colgan is one of my favourite authors and she never disappoints. I adore reading about Polly and Neil and this was a very satisfying conclusion to their journey together.

I had not read any of the other titles in this series but you can read this book as a standalone.title. Set in an idyllic island off the coast of Cornwall, Polly is a baker on the isalnd, living with her boyfriend and with close friends both on and off the island. Polly's wish for a perfect Christmas is not going to be easy with secrets from the past and the present threatening to make he life difficult. An amusing escapist read perfect for the festive season

This is book three in the series which follows Polly and her life running a bakery in the little Cornish village of Polbearne, along with boyfriend Huckle and puffin Neil. Polly’s best friend Kerensa is married to Huckle’s best friend Rueben, who is a very rich loud man. He asks Polly to cater for his family when they are visiting for Christmas. This puts a lot on Polly’s plate, along with wanting to save puffin sanctuary, trying to keep Kersena’s big secret and worrying about her own relationship. On top of that a big mystery from Polly’s background comes to the foreground. I felt like this book tried to pack too much in, there was enough drama to fit into two books (but I think Colgan plans to finish this series at this book so that’s probably why everything was crammed in). This tends to add to a feeling of anxiety and when you’re reading a Christmas book, you want it to be more feel good than worrying. If it had cut out one or two of the story lines, it would have been a much more enjoyable read. I did like it but I was a bit let down considering how much a preferred the other books in the series. You could probably pick this up as a Christmas read with the other two books but I usually find it’s better to have the whole story.
