Anything Doctor Who is awesome. I'd always recommend any book or movie or tv episode that is remotely related to Doctor Who or it's various spin-offs.

'Doctor Who: The American Adventures' by Justin Richards is a book of 6 short stories featuring the Twelfth Doctor in uniquely American adventures.

The Doctor finds himself at various places in American history: the California gold rush, with a group of settlers, at a military base that is planning D-Day and at a large familiar sounding theme park in Florida, and other places. In each, the Doctor's unique gifts are needed to protect the people of Earth from the unknown. In each, he exhibits his own wry humor, which is often unappreciated by those around him.

The true test of a tie in book is if the character feels true to the original creation. On that level, I think these stories succeed. The stories themselves are not great, but neither are they completely terrible. As a fan of the Doctor, I enjoyed reading this collection of stories.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Penguin UK, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

It's no secret I'm completely obsessed with all things The Doctor. I've read a few books and even have a handful of vintage stories in my collection. When I saw this I just couldn't pass it up. The Twelfth Doctor traveling America? SOLD. Peter has been my favorite Doctor of the reboot even if I dislike Clara. I originally wanted to review each story but have decided against it as I felt the American Adventures were a bit meh. It's also written by the same author so I didn't feel a need to talk about each alone. I wouldn't say I disliked them. I will say that most were three-stars and none reached over a four. They were good but they weren't my favorite Doctor Who tales. The first complaint I had was the flat feeling to it all. It didn't feel like THE DOCTOR, but more of a bland character. Short stories often have this problem as only a few Authors can truly build a story before ending it a few pages later. The also felt a bit repetitive. Of course, you know that The Doctor was going to save the day in the end. It seemed like he wrote a plot-line and just changed the specifics.

That all being said, I think if you read them with a bit of time in-between they would have felt more original. I did enjoy them and would read a full story by this author if I had the chance. Shorts are just a hard art to master. If you're a fan of Capaldi and like to get through an adventure in 30 pages, this could be the read for you.

I wanted more from these books than I truly ended up getting. I do like that we got a selection of American Adventures, but I didn't feel very moved by any of the stuff that happened today.

This is an interesting book that consists of six short stories. They all take place in the US, and I believe that they all involved the Twelfth Doctor, although, I didn't feel like it could have only been him.

Some of the stories were okay, not awesome. But others were very cool. The one I liked the most was Spectator Sport, about aliens visiting Earth's big battles, and then an assassin shows up too. I thought it was the best-written one and all the details in it were awesome.

Overall it was an interesting bunch of stories about a place the Doctor doesn't visit too too often.

I was given this galley through Netgalley on behalf of Penguin Random House UK/Puffin.
