A violent twisted murder mystery really enjoyed it.

There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

Medea's Curse is the first book in a new series featuring forensic psychiatrist Natalie King - it's a really tough read with harrowing subject matters but overall compelling and gripping.

I was 100% gripped by this amazing new thriller and just couldn't put it down. It vividly describes a few weeks in the life of forensic psychiatrist, Natalie King, specialising in cases of women who have been charged with killing their babies. It was sad to read descriptions of the fact that many of these women have been abused themselves, either in their childhood, by their partners, or sometimes even both, but it truly mae the bookeven more compelling for me.

Natalie herself is a very complex person and at times her own experiences cause her to become too involved with her clients. This aspect of the book really rang true and made her very much more three dimensional for me

Natalie begins to realise that she has attracted the attentions of a stalker and this was managed very skilfully, drawing us in and increasing the tension. Natalie is a engaging character whose foibles help to increase our relationship with her and hope for the best for this psychiatrist who is also a singer in a rock band who rides a Ducati motorbike and whose pet parrot Bob is her sidekick.

Natalie’s efforts to help others whilst battling a few demons of her own makes for a thoroughly fascinating read. Buist's own background definitely adds a lot to this novel and makes Natalie's patients' situations much more credible to the reader. There is much fascinating detail about the vast array of psychological disorders which result in mothers taking their child's life and certainly added a layer of humanity to these disturbing cases.

A fascinating, original and disturbing tale told by a credible writer about a fascinating character. Perhaps not for the faint hearted but definitely right up my street. Loved this and will definitely be on the look out for more by Buist.
