This novella was previously published in What Happens Under the Mistletoe, (titled Sweet Ruin) and it was my favorite story of the anthology. This was somewhat surprising because this is in the second chance romance trope, which is not usually one of my preferred storylines due to a general abundance of angst and drama. Sweetest Regret did look like it was heading in that direction at first. However, I ended up loving Georgie and Lucas. They learned they were betrayed by someone close to them, and I was ecstatic that they realized the truth of the deception early on in the story. I didn't want them to be at each other's throats the entire time. I joined in the outrage with Georgie and Lucas against the culprit, and I was so happy they got their HEA.

I loved this! It was a perfect, little novella that contained everything you could want in a full length novel: mystery, tension, romance, steam and then of course, a happily ever after. It's clear from the beginning that Lucas and Georgie have misconceptions about what happened two years prior. After some mystery and witty banter between the two, the truth finally comes out about what caused their separation. There's a bit of s push and pull before everything falls perfectly into place and you think for a second that Lucas and Georgie may not get their happily ever. Fortunately, that is not the case. The writing was great and evoked all sorts of emotions which I was really impressed with considering it was a novella. I definitely recommend this if you're looking for a quick yet satisfying read.

Really enjoyed this book. Only complaint is that felt the story ended too abruptly. The author could certainly expand the story into a full-length novel. Very nice Christmas holiday Victorian novel with just enough spice to keep you warm on a cold night.

Meredith Duran is one of my auto-buy authors because I can always count her books for an excellent historical romance read. Sweetest Regret, a novella, is no exception--even though it's a novella, you still get a full, satisfying story and a swoon-worthy HEA.
Georgiana "Georgie" Trent, the prime minister's daughter, and Lucas Godwin met and fell in love two years prior in Munich. But, Lucas left Munich without so much as a goodbye and broke Georgie's heart. After her father was suddenly called away on business during a Christmas house party, he invited Lucas to help her look for a missing letter of diplomatic importance that was reportedly stolen by one of the house party guests. Georgie was still very angry and wanted nothing to do with him, but, for some reason Georgie didn't understand, Lucas seemed angry with her as well.
As they're forced to reluctantly work together to find the missing letter, they find that they still have a strong attraction and feelings for each other. But, they have to first work out what actually happened in the past that caused Lucas's abrupt departure before they can hope for their happily ever after.
The events in the novella occurred days leading up to Christmas and days immediately after. The house party guests were foreign diplomats who wanted to experience a true English Christmas so there was a wonderful holiday season-y vibe to the story. The writing is as excellent as always--just as well-written as Ms. Duran full novels. The pacing was excellent--even though it's a novella it was a well-rounded story.
If you're missing the holiday season now that we're in dreary January, I highly recommend you pick up Sweetest Regret. Read it while drinking some peppermint flavored hot cocoa, and it will take you right back to Christmas.

I was so excited to read Sweetest Regret. I dived into this novella as soon as I could and I loved it !
In this book we follow Georgian and Lucas ( for a lot of the story he is called Godwin) and I just loved these two together. They used to be very close and due too some out side scheming both of them went there separate ways . However flash forward 2 years later and they meet once more . It was so much fun watching these two reconnect you could tell that they both cared for each other deeply , the romance between them was sweet , swoon worthy and sexy .I loved everything about this novella. There was romance , there was drama and to make things even better its was set during the Christmas season. Meredith Duran created an excellent novella with Sweetest regret and I cannot wait to read her next book . If you love all these things in your books I suggest you pick up a copy as soon as you can .

I am a little disappointed in this one. Normally I am very excited to read work by this author but feel perhaps this was a little bit of a let down. The plot was so so and carried out in a manner that made it unbelievable for me. The characters were nothing exciting or fantastic. However, with her gift of writing she made a so so read into a good read thereby getting the four stars instead of the three I was going to give it. The elements of the search as well as the time it takes makes it difficult to say this is a great read however for a novella, I will say it is a good read. I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom

I received this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book particularly Georgina "Georgie" and Lucas. They are both two very stubborn people who fell in love but didn't admit it until two years later after a lot of hurt and miscommunication.
I'm so glad that they eventually make amends and at Christmas time which is perfect for miracles.
I loved that this was a short story as it was a quick read and sometimes it's nice to read shorter books.
It was a great mix of humor, love, Christmas magic and surprises. Looking forward to reading more by this author!

Sweetest Regret (ebook)
by Meredith Duran
Life is full of regrets, but when that regret is your greatest love its hard to move on. Sweet Regret follows the story of two love birds that were nipped in the bud because of political and social class. This 18th century set novel shows the elegance of English culture, and the corruption of human nature. A young heiress has lost her love, he left unannounced with no reason. She spent the last two years building a life with her broken heart. Then this Christmas everything had changed. Her father hosted a party at their estate and invited the one person she never thought to see again. Finding out the complications of their love affair, and the machinations of her widowed father the two find a bond that will last and overcome all their problems.

with all of Meredith Duran’s writing, I enjoyed this one, too. Albeit, short, since it is a novella, it was packed with humor, silly moments, outrageous dialog and above all, a sound happily ever after.
The story begins a few days before Christmas. Georgie has always, or so it seems, been alone at Christmas. Her mother passed away years ago and she was virtually stranded to enjoy the season with the servants!
Some years previous, she thought she’d fallen in love. Lucas Godwin seemed to like her with her unusual intelligence and interests for a woman of the Regency period. But Sir Philip was nothing more than a rogue and she, the duped one. After 30 days of acquaintance and continued attraction, their time in Munich was a distant memory, nothing more.
Needless to say, Georgie was a bit sarcastic, embittered and thoroughly put out when her father who was to finally spend time with her at Christmas was called to duty, running off to some diplomatic tangle he was supposed to fix. Georgie was left to entertain a bunch of foreign diplomats. Her father also expressed concern about an important and vital letter which had gone missing. He thinks one of the diplomats has snagged it. It is up to Georgie to find it. The theme of the entertainment is for diplomats to enjoy the tradition of an English Christmas. Just as she was prepared to take the bull by its horns, her father cabled additional instructions.
that Lucas Godwin is to join the party. He will find the letter.
The name Lucas Godwin set her heart pounding and not in a good way! As far as she’s concerned, he was nothing more than a silver-tongued snake. She couldn’t face him. No, she wouldn’t face him. But then...she couldn’t deny him entrance to her father’s home. Her father was his boss. She’d been schooled to not lose her temper, to restrain her reactions. She was the daughter of England’s best diplomat. She was scholarly, deeply interested in the political scene, and not one to enjoy balls. But under this façade, she is dynamite!
With this setting, all is chaos. Georgie cannot hold her tongue. She says all the outrageous things she can to rid herself of Lucas. Lucas shoves it right back! But they have a job to do – find the letter. Once the letter is found, Lucas can be on his way.
This is a funny, uplifting story which kept me chuckling throughout. In my opinion, Georgie and Lucas deserve each other and are perfectly matched, that is, if the truth can be discovered under all the rhetoric.

Great read! Love these sweet and spicy novella's!

Meredith Duran is known for her historical romances and I love the fact that she has been publishing little novellas that fill in between her full size novels.
Sweetest Regret was a fabulous read. I love the way the author creates her stories. With plenty of background, some heated anticipation, hot connections, and a HEA to swoon over, you get a full size read in a great novella from an author that knows how to heat up the pages and bring in the romance.
This one has a Christmas theme but is perfect to read any time. I loved this one!
