This is a real page-turner of a thriller that had me gripped. I'm not a great thriller lover and spent most of The girl on the train asking Why? But this had me hooked from early on. I liked the family relationships: the nephew who has grown up secure and happy but still needs to know where his Mum went, the Mother who is so controlling because she is so scarred of losing anyone else, and the younger sister who hears the missing sister talk to her all the time. There are some great scenes inside a secure psychiatric hospital, an edge of the seat ending and lots of twists and turns. Enjoy.

I loved "The Book Of You" and so I could not wait to read this one!

She didn't disappoint, I read it in two sittings begrudgingly feeding my kids in between!

So Ella's sister Miranda went missing 10yrs ago leaving her baby behind, a guy is in prison for murdering several women, did he also murder Miranda?

Ella sets off to find out if he did which results in her life becoming very dangerous with a lot of twists and turns it was a creepy book really and had me on the edge of my seat (a lot).....

I was literally screaming at the finale and was like omg omg omg!!!

A must read I'd even read it again and will be telling all my friends about this one, oh and if you haven't read her first book named above go get that too!!!!

The Second Sister by Clare Kendal is a twisty psychological thrillers that will appeal to fans of her first book The Book of You.

The Second Sister is a novel that is both a twisty thriller and an emotional story of a family reeling from the loss of a daughter and a sister. Like her previous novel The Book of You there is a dark and menacing undercurrent flowing through this book. Ella, as a narrator brings real emotion to her story, but this emotion can also cause her to make some bad decision, putting herself in danger.
The plot is fast paced, dark and chilling, it is edge of the seat reading. A brilliant second book.

After a fairly slow start this book became really good.
I felt drawn into the story and was genuinely surprised at a couple of incidents.
Would recommend this book.

This book was well-written, fast-paced, and an original addition to the thriller genre. I gulped it down in one sitting and whilst it was an enjoyable yet chilling read, I was left feeling disappointed by the predictable ending. But, overall, I would recommend as an immersive and escaping beach read!

Failed to keep me interested and feel disappointed because I don’t know what happened to Miranda! But at the end of the day this one was not for me

The second sister of the title is Ella whose elder sister Miranda disappeared ten years ago leaving her baby boy behind. The family have struggled to come to terms with what happened to her as they bring up her son, but Ella is determined to find out what happened to her. The book is well written and fairly well paced and Ella's character seems very real with her sense of loss and grief and some anger at her sister. Her nephew wants to know more about his mother, so she sets on a terrifying journey to uncover the truth.

I did think some of the other some what psychotic characters came over as caricatures and I thought the last few chapters were just a bit too drawn out.

Still a good read which I would recommend. Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for a review copy.

Woo! This is a rollercoaster ride of a psychological thriller, it hooked me from the first few pages. There have so far been a plethora of great psychological thrillers in 2017 and this rates extremely highly against those. This will certainly be near the top of my Best of 2017 list.

Ella's sister Miranda disappeared ten years ago, leaving her baby behind. A man named Jason Thorne, currently in prison for murdering several women, is linked to Miranda through new evidence. Did Miranda know this guy? Ella is finding it increasingly difficult to hold it together but her love for her sister's child and her job keep her together, just. Ella is haunted by the possibility that Thorne took Miranda, and driven by her nephew's longing to know what happened to his mother, Ella decides to do whatever it takes to find the truth - even when it becomes dangerous.

This is a slow burner with unpredictable twists and is genuinely creepy. The book highlights the unbreakable bond of love between the two sisters and shows the lengths people will go to for the people they love. The relationship and bond between Ella & her nephew is beautiful, they are tied together through Miranda. The writing is, in my opinion, pretty flawless. The Book of You, Kendal's debut novel, is one I have heard about but not read. I now plan to buy it. I'm hoping it'll be as fabulous as this is, friends have assured me it is.

Thank you to Claire Kendal, HarperCollins, HarperFiction & NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley who provided this book in exchange for an honest review

I must be honest I found this book quite slow, for the first half anyway. It did intrigue me enough to enable me to persevere to the end, the second half of the book was really good. However by the time I got really involved the book was 80% through and I did feel wrapped up quickly.

The story follows Ella as she looks into the disappearance of her sister some 10 years previous. The book was entertaining if a little ridiculous at times, for example the Police handling of the case seemed very slapdash missing evidence Ella seems to stumble on easily. I won't say much more on the plot as I don't want to spoil the plot.

If you like a slow burn suspense thriller this is a good read if you like fast paced thrillers perhaps this isn't the book for you.

I enjoyed this book hugely, after getting used to the constant dialogue to a character who isn't there!

There are some flaws that stopped me from rating it 5*. Occasionally the actions and dialogue are not natural at all, especially when it comes to a couple of peripheral characters.
Although the ending was very well written and exciting to read I was disappointed by the identity of the perpetrator. There are some hints about past actions right at the end of the book that I with had been detailed a little more - that would have been very interesting.

Altogether, though, this novel is extremely well written and the pace is just right. The characters well rounded and very sympathetic, I cared about what happened to them and always wanted to know more.
Even the bit part character's were interesting - especially the rose carver. The mixture of pity and menace was perfect.

I am definitely going to buy Ms Kendal's first book and any future books. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers, mysteries and suspense

Firstly I would like to thank Harper Collins and Netgalley for my ebook. This is a psychological thriller that for me was a slow burner.

I found that there was just too much unnecessary detail that got in the way of my enjoyment.

I really wish that the conversations Ella had with Miranda had been written in italics as they would often immediately follow an actual conversation with a living person and would throw me off track.

A lot of the story, in my opinion was far fetched, especially with regard to tracking down Noah and the fact that the sisters were carbon copies of each as were Luke and his dad.

All in all it was a pleasing enough story but the thrilling part was left to the conclusion.

Ten years ago, Ella's older sister disappeared, leaving her baby son in the care of their parents. Ella is haunted by the disappearance and seeks answers leading to a dangerous denouement. A moving psychological thriller written in first person present tense narrative that slows the pace of the story.

An entertaining, quick read which was perfectly enjoyable if you don't ask too many questions.
There is one thread involving a supposed friend - why would she be friends with Alice? - which seemed completely superfluous, other than to muddy the water ineffectively.
The possible explanation of why the police had seemed to have missed so many clues is pretty far fetched and I have to admit to being a bit irritated that every man in the book falls for Ella. It also seems to borrow heavily from Silence of the Lambs in parts but Thorne is no Hannibal Lecter.
But, like I said it's an easy read and pretty typical for the saturated genre with no real surprises at the end.
My thanks to Netgalley for this copy.

Oh my what an amazing book this was, I would say that this read is by best read yet from 2017! Well done Clare Kendal you have certainly kept me gripped to this book from the state right until the end.

In my opinion I thought that this book was tense, heart breaking and full of suspense. Reading this has made me want to read Claire's first book. I think it is going to be hard to find a better read I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who likes the psychological Thrillers.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book ahead of publication in return for a honest and inpartial review.
The plot is about Ella's search for her sister who has been missing for ten years, having disappeared leaving behind her baby son. Don't wish to give away any more of the plot, but there are numerous twists along the journey to uncovering the truth and story behind her sister's disappearance.
I enjoyed the author's writing style and although the plot in my opinion contains a couple of far fetched scenarios, it does make for a fairly enjoyable read and would have no hesitation in recommending for fans of this genre of book.

10 years ago Ella's sister Miranda went missing, leaving behind her young son and a distraught family. Ella has never given up hope and wants to find the real truth behind her sisters disappearance. Now there is news on who may have been responsible. Jason Thorne, already incarcerated for murdering several women, has links to Miranda, but is he responsible? Ella is driven to find out the real truth, willing to put her life on the line.
A gripping read and a rollercoaster finale. Loved it.
