A SOLID debut novel!! I love reading debut novels by talented authors. It's not that it's so surprising that there are talented authors out there, but when you find the ones that leave you going, "NO WAY THAT'S A DEBUT NOVEL", then you know your bibliophile heart is happy.

I love a good, action packed, brutal, twisty story. The crazier the better and this book absolutely delivers. You have a crazy protagonist who isn't the best of people, asked to do a "favor" and ends up in more hot water than he already is in. This only creates great fodder for my wicked mind. Keep them coming!

As a vet I didn't want to like the drug addict vet angle. I kept reading and the story kept getting better. Lots of violence but drugs cause violence. Still at the foundation it is about love, love for a dog that is a main part of the book, and love for a wife who should have but didn't. I liked it.

Brolin Walker is on a mission. His mother-in-law has asked him to go from small town Texas to Devil's Lake, Dakota to return his stepson's body. She has received a ransom note for it, she wants it and she's going to pay the money.

His visit to Devil's Lake is one mystery after another. He receives mixed signals, different answers and at first is just told to "go home".

Brolin is on a mission, he may be getting the run around, he knows there is something going on, and even though he is threatened and told to leave Devil's Lake, he stays. He's not leaving without his stepson's body.

Brolin is on a mission. He stays around and keeps looking and asking questions. He's been beat up, been picked up and told he was going to see the body, but was beat up and left in the woods. Still he stays.

Brolin is on a mission. The things he discovers are liars, drug addicts, killers, drug kingpins and violent hitmen. His search is endless, because he is not giving up.

Brolin is on a mission. The things Brolin goes through will test the will of any man. But, Brolin is on a mission.

A great read, mesmerizing, unputtdownable, and action packed. I kept thinking this more guy needs to give it up, but. . .
Brolin is on a mission.

Thanks to Crooked Cat Publishing and Net Galley for approving and allowing me to read and review this fantastic story of Brolin's journey.

I really liked the main character of Brolin. The book is well written and gripped me from the start. At times I felt sorry for Brolin as his heart was in the right place. A really good read. Thank you Net Galley for my copy. I reviewed on Goodreads.

I was really surprised by this book and the fact that I really enjoyed reading it. I found myself even liking and rooting for the main character, Brolin Walker. The plot was different and adventurous, and I liked the writing style. The ending was a surprise which is always pleasing to me. This book would definitely not be for everybody, but those who like out of the ordinary plots (with a lot of violence) might just enjoy this book.

Brolin Walker, an ex-cop and drug addict smokes his days away in Texas with his dog Red. He plans to leave Texas for good but his mother-in-law turns up asking Brolin to go to North Dakota to pay a ransom for his estranged stepsons body. After he pays the ransom money there is no sign of his stepsons body so he begins a deadly journey to find out what's happened to him.

There are some well written parts to this book. It's fast pace kept me turning the pages. Quite a decent read.

I would like to thank NetGalley, Crooked Cat Publishing and the author Lorcan Kavanagh for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
