"This story was surprisingly engaging and detailed. You can easily notice a lot of research was done about the time and vessels. Don't worry, even if you - like me - are not familiar with nautical terms you will do just fine. In my case, I can even say I learned a lot!" - Audiobookish, June 4, 2017 - Amazon.com

I very much enjoyed this swashbuckling tale of pirates. It reminded me somewhat of the old movies I used to watch on TV on a Saturday afternoon as a child, though the violence and sex is rather more graphic in this book. A really good read.

If you're looking for a novel full of pirate shenanigans, this book is for you! I do think the book started out a bit slow but it definitely picks up and you won't be able to read it fast enough. I did get a little overwhelmed with all of the characters at first, thinking I would forget who they were but when they were brought up again, the book was descriptive enough that I placed them fairly quickly. I enjoyed so many of the characters and their histories. I love how discriptive everything was, it really helps immerse you in the story. I will say I'm surprised there were things left up in the air, I guess with it being so long I expected everything to be tied up neatly. The ending really makes me want one more book added to the series! I would absolutely recommend this to people who enjoy period novels.

Don't let the length of this read scare you off - it's a wonderful read full of action, adventure, and shenanigans. With a stunning and sordid backdrop and descriptions that are vivid but shy away from the grotesque, any pirate/adventure lover will want to pick up this book. If you are looking for lurid and gory descriptions in your story, then this is not the book for you.
