Olivia disappeared the night the blackbird died.

It was New Year’s Eve, the night that dead blackbirds descended, hours before Alex McCarthy’s sister Olivia vanished from a party.

Committed to finding out what happened to her sister, in their isolated Orkney village, Alex knows that dishevelled – sometimes intoxicated – Detective Inspector Birkens is her best shot.

Yet as they uncover the secrets behind Olivia’s last night, Alex starts to discover things she may have been better off not knowing…

Perfect for fans of One of Us is Lying, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and Riverdale.

I really enjoyed this book. I was totally gripped and enthralled from the start. I like that the story was told from Alex's point of view and that Olivia was narrator for some of it too. I was totally surprised by the ending. The Setting of the Orknies added to the atmosphere. It also made it a really good thriller as it meant that the culprit had to be someone that everyone knew. The friendship between Alex and Detective Inspector Birken is very well written and the other characters are well described which added to my empathy with the characters.
