Description
Three old geezers, activists, and lifelong friends reunite at the funeral of the wife of one of them, Antoine, who finds out about a long ago liaison between his dearly departed and the reviled billionaire who owns the factory they all worked in. Livid, Antoine jumps in his car and heads for Italy with revenge on his mind, his two buddies and his pregnant granddaughter following close behind. A chance to reminisce about the past, to fantasize about sticking it to the man, to discuss what’s wrong with the world, to bridge the generation gap, to forgive and forget and settle scores. A wickedly funny geriatric road trip!

Old Geezers is quite nicely illustrated, with rich images that convey this story of geriatrics. My copy had images followed by a script, which highlighted the story separately. |

What a fabulous graphic novel which ends with a cliff-hanger. I cannot wait for the next installment. Beautifully drawn, the story is lovely and the characters well-drawn (both literally and metaphorically). What a charming and nostalgic novel. |

This is an interesting way to tell a story, with old protagonists involved, as well as one very pregnant grandchild, trying to find the mystery of stolen gold, and a love affair, as they travel from France to Italy. And guess what? Not too much gratuitous female nudity for once, from a European comic book writer. (I mean there are a few scenes where we see a nude back, and some of the women have some tight clothes, but not bad). And we are left with a mystery, at the end, to be resolved, I take, in the future translations of this book. Thanks to NetGalley for making this book available for an honest review. |

Super fun to read and the illustrations are wonderful!! I especially loved the flashback scenes and the way they were presented with a coloration change segue. This needs to be read in physical form or on a table, not e-reader as it is in full color and so visually appealing. |

Couldn't leave it before i read it from the beginning til the end - it caught my eye at first sight - really beautiful drawings, lovely colours, so nice affectionate painted characters. I'd love to see and read more of them! |

This is the first episode of a series, which has been translated from the French original. A trio of geriatric men are not ready to hang up their spurs. When one--an ardent unionist--discovers that his recently deceased wife had an affair fifty years before with the boss of his company (his arch rival in union negotiations)--he sets out to Tuscany from France for revenge, armed with a rifle. The two other geezers and his granddaughter set off in pursuit. It's a great story, well told and with great illustrations, both of the characters, many of whom are very old and wrinkled, and the landscape during the journey and once arrived in Tuscany. All of this brings the story and characters to vivid life. The English text is very well done. It is believable, with more than a few curse words, but this aspect of the story is believable and not overdone for the sake of sensation. Despite the familiarity of the language, however, the story's sentiment and political content are very French. The granddaughter makes an outraged speech, for instance, in which she says that the old geezers' generation has been the worst in history and has ruined the world through globalization and a few of the other usual suspects. One of the geezers is part of a movement that disrupts upper class social events. The story also promotes acts such as putting matches and superglue into the doors of businesses such as banks to prevent them opening. Even in Trump's America, I'm not sure that there is a wide audience for this type of protest or a pervasive feeling that things are THAT bad. The book's ending sets up the geezers for an extended set of adventures (or provocations?) Presumably, the English translation of these is on the way. It should be an interesting saga. |
