Disclaimer: Read to find some Christmas presents for my step-niece, as requested by her parents. I received a free copy of this thanks to Netgalley and Chouette Publishing. This in no way affected my review. Publication Date: 25th September 2017 Review Date: 27th November 2017 Caillou Plays Hockey is a children’s book inspired by an animated series. Although I don’t know the series this was adapted from, this was really, really sweet. I personally love ice hockey so reading this and seeing it from someone who loves it, this was really adorable. The art work is really simple and sweet, and I think this would serve well for little kids who like sports. This is definitely a book that could be used to inspire children for sure, and it’s really well written. I actually surprisingly enjoyed this. |

I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. This is another book in the Caillou series and it was also enjoyable and interesting to my 4 year old grandson. In this book Caillou is a very good skater and wants to play hockey with the “big kids”. His dad buys him hockey equipment and he continues to practice, however he can’t keep up with the older kids. His dad explains that it will take time and practice to achieve his goals. He gives Caillou the hockey jersey that he wore as a hockey player and tells him that “This was mine when I was young, Caillou. Keep practicing, and by the time it fits you, I bet you’ll be able to play as well as Billy and his friends.” This book encourages setting goals and working hard to obtain them, but does so in an easy to understand and loving manner. I understand that these books are based on animated films shown at some time on PBS, we will check into these films as well as further books on Caillou! |

Caillou wants to play hockey with the big kids. They're willing, and his father gives him a lot of help. But this book teaches that some things take a lot of time and work, and does so in a very realistic but positive manner. This could be the starting point of a discussion about the hard work it takes to achieve most anything worthwhile in life. The illustrations are also very pleasing. |

This book was a really easy read, with colorful illustrations and great lessons. I like that dad took him to a store to purchase 2nd hand hockey equipment. And explained to him that a dream will only be achieved with dedication and experience. The more Caillou practiced the better his hockey skills. |

As Caillou gets older, I like him so much more. In this book he loves going skating and watching people play hockey. He wants to play too, but thinks he is too small. Dad takes him shopping where they buy used equipment and helps him learn how to play. The boys also let him play with them. The lesson in this book is about practising to get better, trying hard, realizing that some things are hard when you are younger. Bright illustrations add to the story. A good book to read to kindergarten and primary students to help them when they are frustrated about learning new things. A great addition to a family, classroom, school or public library. |

This one has a thumbs up from our four year old, who's familiar with Caillou even though we don't watch it. The images were bright and colorful. He enjoyed following along while Caillou shopped with his dad and practiced. He loved the idea of the younger kids playing and beating the bigger kids, too. |
