Description

Marianne Hayward, teacher of Psychology and compulsive analyser of the human condition, is hormonally unhinged. The first seven years of her education were spent at a boys’ prep school, Brocklebank Hall, where she was relentlessly bullied. From the start, she was weak and frightened and easy prey for Barnaby Sproat and his gang. Only one boy was never horrible to her: the clever and enigmatic Edward Harvey, on whom she developed her first crush.

Now 46, when Marianne finds her charming husband in the kitchen talking to the glamorous Charmaine, her childhood insecurities resurface and their once-happy marriage begins to slide. Teenage daughter Holly persuades her to join Friends Reunited, which results in both fearful and nostalgic memories of prep school as Marianne wonders what has become of the bullies and of Edward Harvey. Frantic to repair her marriage, yet rendered snappy and temperamental by her plummeting hormones, her attempts towards reconciliation fail. The answer to all her problems could lie in finding Edward again... But what would happen if she found what she seeks? Meeting Lydia is a book about childhood bullying, midlife crises, obsession, jealousy and the ever-growing trend of internet relationships. It will appeal to fans of adult fiction and those interested in the dynamics and psychology of relationships. Author Linda is inspired by Margaret Atwood, Fay Weldon and David Lodge.

Advance Praise

"I thoroughly enjoyed Meeting Lydia. The story just had so many layers that drew me right in and piece by piece the author, Linda MacDonald, peeled away each layer exposing life for Marianne through the good times and the bad. The story is raw and emotional and so many other feelings all bundled up into one which made this a fantastic read for me and, in a way, extremely relatable. I found myself, once finished with the story, really thinking back on it and that is when I knew that this story has really had an impact on me and really had me looking into my own life and things that I have gone through that have shaped my life today.  I highly recommend every woman, older and younger, pick up a copy and immerse yourself, the way I did, in this wonderful and heartfelt story." - Amazon review

"This was a fascinating read, the type that explores relationships and human behavior and the reasons for our behavior. A number of things lead Marianne to try and contact her childhood friend, Edward including insecurity after her husband begins to show an interest in a younger coworker and basic conflicting (and all too common) midlife feelings and emotions. The appeal of connecting online is also a factor, she likes the anonymity that the internet provides and craves something she can call her own beyond motherhood and being a wife. I think women at any age could find something about Marianne’s journey they could relate to and MacDonald explores her issues in an interesting way." - Amazon review
