This may be the fourth book in The Forensic Files series but as with the rest of the books they read as a stand alone. You do see some recurring characters which was great to see if you are already a fan of the books.

I fell in love with the stables that TJ finds herself lucky enough to have taken over. I really felt sorry for TJ as she's a lovely person making a new start after an horrific event has left her with injuries that still cause her issues. Each day seems to bring some new disaster which sets TJ back as well as costing money

The story flicks between TJ and the killer. Some of the parts to do with the killer were extremely disturbing and sent chills up and down my spine. Saying this though I couldn't wait to keep turning those pages to see what they were going to do next.

Under The Woods is yet another gripping read from the author in a criminally good series. With plenty to thrill and creep the reader out, it is certainly a page turner of a read. The author threw a few red herrings my way to make sure they kept me guessing until all was revealed. Loved it!

KARichardson once again creates a taut fast paced novel you will become immersed in ;she weaves together several different strands and delivers in bringing them all to exciting conclusions.A book that holds its own within the series in which it is set

OK, OK, someone punish me, I committed the heinous crime of jumping into a series at book four. But, on the bright side, I can say that, as I thoroughly enjoyed it, this works really well as a stand alone. I am already planning on sneaking the previous books into my rather bulging tbr as I did connect with the main players well.
This is a little different from the normal crime books I usually read as it revolves more around the forensic side of things rather than the police investigation. I say different, I actually mean refreshing. My bread and butter staple reads are mostly police procedurals but I have recently found that they can get a bit samey after a while and I am starting to mix up a few of the series I follow as there is really nothing outstanding to distinguish them.
It's hard to say anything much about the plot as it is all interconnected and best discovered as the author intends but the majority of the action revolves around two locations; a stables and an old abandoned school. The stables is owned and run by TJ, a project she started when the previous owner moved and offered it to her. this came at the right time in her life as she was still recovering from a nasty incident. She has been doing well since she took over but she feels to go further she needs to expand and that means developing some of the land on the edge of the property. Problem is though, that land is already in use; as a body dump for a serial killer who uses it to store his angels. The killer's attention is therefore torn between actively adding to his collection whilst at the same time trying to ensure they are not discovered.
I really took to TJ right from first meeting (remember I am coming in cold). She does suffer with her jaw injury, bless her, but she has grit and guts and is determined not to let that hold her back. She is also quite close to her family. Brother Jacob and his partner both work in the world of forensics which is quite handy when strange things start happening to her. Other characters are just as well described and develop nicely, both alone and with others throughout the book. Another reason I want to go back and see where they started.
Pacing is good throughout. There's quite a bit of nasty stuff happens in parts of the book and this is offset by some slower, more lighter moments which gives the book an overall balanced feeling. Plotting is tight and well executed and the descriptive parts add to the overall atmosphere of the story rather than distracting away from it.
Much as I want the next in series to come soon, I also need a little time to sneak the catch up books into my tbr. Needless to say I now have it on my watchlist.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I was hooked on this book right from page one. This has to be one of the most sinister books I have ever read, and I loved it! I have enjoyed all of KA Richardson’s books to date, and in my humble opinion, this is definitely the best one so far. This book has had me holding my breath, gritting my teeth and jumping out of my skin at every sound! This makes you appreciate what CSI’s have to go through in their line of work, never knowing what they will see next. I highly recommend this book.

This is a very good series which continues to improve with each book. Now known as the Forensic Files and set in the North East of England, what I particularly like is that the cast of characters is wide and varied but nobody dominates the action; different aspects of the emergency services are featured throughout but they overlap and interconnect. Kidnap and murder feature heavily in this story, and the back stories of some of the principals are particularly engrossing. More please!

Loved this book, the 4th in the series. Reunited with an ensemble of familiar characters, with some new, the villian of the story is obsessed with his Angels. The attention to detail is admirable and the characters likeable and dedicated to their craft. Highly recommended.

This is one of my favourite series' . Under The Woods is another excellent thrilling instalment in the Forensic Files series. Once again there are some familiar and lovable characters from the previous books plus the authors knowledge of Crime Scene Investigators and procedures.
A great plot which evolved around a disabled riding school , it's surrounding areas. and an abandoned school. The tension and intrigue throughout captured my interest from start to finish. I enjoyed the timed, dated and location chapters in this book. This is another thrilling read from this author and I am looking forward to the next!

This is the 4th book in the Forensic files series and I have to say they just keep getting better and better. You could easily read this as a standalone but it really is a series you don`t want to miss out on.
The characters grow throughout and you find yourself willing the serial killer to be caught. The details of the crimes and the descriptions of the forensic investigations are chilling and had me on the edge of my seat.
This one had me hooked from the very first chapter and I hope we dont have too long to wait for the next book in the series.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bloodhoundbooks for the chance to read this as an arc, I`d highly recommend it.

I love this authors books but I must say this is the best one so far, they just get better and better. Creepy, disturbing and a dark read at times, I couldn't put it down. Highly recommend you give it a go. Hugs 5 stars.

Fantastic! I really enjoyed reading this book, the storyline grabbed me from the start and I found myself itching to find out what happened next. Looking forward to reading more of this author’s books in the future.

This is the first book that I’ve read in this series and I loved it!
I will definitely be reading the previous three books.
This book centres around a man who sees certain women as his ‘Angels’ and he holds them prisoner, making them complete cruel tasks until he’s had enough, then he kills them.
We get an insight into his thoughts through chapters written from his perspective and whilst with some characters you have empathy, this guy definitely didn’t evoke that in me. He doesn’t think like a sane person and he visits the victims in their unmarked graves, to show his love, and this made my skin crawl.
His burial site is on TJ’s land, unbeknownst to her, and so he does everything he can to stop her planning application to build on the land he uses.
TJ is recovering from a traumatic incident from her past and when her home is broken into and the stables vandalised, she struggles to cope.
Jackson grows fond of her and is there to support her both personally and professionally as he works in forensics.
This is a gripping story and the killer’s obsession with his ‘Angels’ leads to a heartstopping final few chapters.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

The man collects "angels" ... women of the streets, women who won't be missed. While he keeps them in an abandoned school, he tortures them, brutalizes them, makes them do tasks to prove their love for him. Then he kills them. But what he does after he kills them is even worse.

TJ Tulley owns a horse stable. Strange things are happening at her place. First her home is broken into, although nothing is taken. Then one of her barns is set on fire.

If you like forensics, this is a good book to read. CSI Jackson Doherty is investigating the goings on at the stables. His attraction to TJ is a bonus .. he's serious-minded and serious about finding the truth. But neither he nor TJ understand just how close they are to the truth ..and just how dangerous that is.

Tracking the connection between the serial killer and the vandalism at the stables, the characters are finely drawn and credible. This is a well written crime thriller. Even though it is 4th in the series, it is easily read as a stand alone.

Many thanks to the author / Bloodhound Books / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I really admire this authors series and I was on the previous blog tour for Watch You Burn. They are police procedurals with a strong ethos on forensics. This novel is #4 in the forensic files. One thing I also love about the author is the way, in which she creates her characters. They come across authentic and she is not afraid to tackle difficult characters to create. Which in this novel, is the character of Cheryl Whitten a local homeless lady.

The prologue opens from the killer’s perspective, which is creepy and eerie. You almost feel like a voyeur watching a serial killer perfecting his craft. The killer talks of ‘his angels’ and ‘his treasure’ but what he is in fact referring to is society’s throwaway women, he has captured and killed. We become aware he is visiting the burial site of one of his previous victims, a beautiful drug addict turned ‘angel’.

Meanwhile, in Darlington it is the Christmas party for the forensics team. TJ Tulley has been dragged along as her brother Jacob’s designated driver. Jacob is a digital forensic analyst and the party is in full swing. It is at this party that TJ first meets loveable rogue Jackson Docherty. Jackson has an eye for the ladies, shall we say!
We later learn that TJ is the proud owner of Rainbow riding stables in Durham. However, the stables doesn’t come without its downsides. She must deal with local farmer and neighbour from hell Neil Brown. He is a brutish man and regularly openly berates TJ. He is an all-round pain in the backside. But you get a sense it is a simmering tension, waiting to bubble over into violence.

TJ herself has previously been the victim of a violent assault. Which has left her with chronic pain and physical suffering. The man who assaulted her was caught and committed suicide in his prison cell, adding further anguish to TJ’s recovery. Despite the trauma of her attack, TJ sees the positive in life and agrees to allow ‘difficult teens’ to assist at the stables. Which includes her attackers son Matthew. I really admired TJ’s ability to overcome the difficulties she has faced in life.
But I then began to wonder, were they just about to get a whole lot worse. . .

Cheryl Whiffen is a local homeless woman, she hears voices and they torment her every waking hour. When we meet her, she is hungry cold and feeling the strain of life on the streets. Her only friend in the word is a fellow homeless lady named Sally. When Cheryl goes missing, Sally is the only person to notice her absence. Can Sally get the police to take the case seriously?

‘She was definitely not, and never would be, one of his angels’

I think the author has done a fantastic job of her portrayal of not only homeless people, but of mental health conditions and how they manifest. I have worked in adult mental health and in facilitates which have re-homed mentally ill people from the streets. I think what the author did was give them a personality, a background etc. Allow the reader to see them as they truly are, people that matter! People that have lived through horrific life experiences, you hope to never endure.

But back to the case in hand, Jackson is at the scene of a dead body. A male drug addict found in the woods and partially eaten by his own dog.
Is this the killer that lurks amongst the pages?

There are chapters from the killer’s perspectives as he sets his victims tasks, of which they must complete. This element reminded me of the horror movie Saw. It was petrifying yet you couldn’t help but read on!
Especially the parts about the killer’s own childhood!!!!!!!

Farmer Brown’s son goes missing. Jackson faces harassment from an ex-lover named Nicki, who is a total bunny boiler. Someone is watching TJ, casually stalking her every move. Sally struggles to get the police to take Cheryl’s disappearance seriously. This novel is packed with various spin-off stories within.
The characters are authentic, their choices questionable but realistic.
All round this is a fantastic read! 5*

Q&A:
Q) Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your current series the forensic files?
A) My name is Kerry and I live in north east England with my husband Peter and our 2 Dogs, Tala and Riley. I used to work as a csi and still work for the police albeit in a different role now. My csi background and passion for forensics is a massive inspiration when it comes to writing. The Forensic Files can be read as a series or as standalones as the characters change in each novel though there is always some overlap. They’re crime novels that are heavy on the forensics and that side of the police investigation.
Q) In my review I talk about the authenticity of your characters. Are they inspired by real-life people? Where do you find your inspiration?
A) The characters are not based on any one person but may well feature traits from a few different people all melded together. I find inspiration in pretty much everything from children’s laughter to rain on the windows, but I do love a good people watching session and often build descriptions whilst sitting in coffee shops. Often an outfit or a pair of shoes seen while doing this may feature in one of my novels.
Q) The character of Cheryl Whitten as a homeless lady with mental health problems, is very accurate. Did you research homelessness or mental health problems?
A) Cheryl was a complex character to write – it did involve research into mental health – primarily multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia – and also homelessness though in my current role for the police I have some interaction with that side of things. I loved her character though – I felt bad for having to kill her off.
Q) The reason I adored the characterisation of Cheryl and Sally so much, was your ability to bring them over on the page as real people. Not a label or a stereotype, but real people with stories behind their eyes. Is this difficult to achieve as a writer?
A) That’s a tough question haha. Most characters come to me screaming loudly to be heard and desperate to tell their stories – I like them to be as real to the reader as they are to me so I get to know them first. I write a character profile for the main characters whether bad or good. This involves things like how I see them, eye colour hair etc, their hobbies, likes/dislikes and friends/enemies etc. Because I get to know them before I start, I feel I get a good handle on them being real to me. And that’s important – I love and live and breathe these characters for the time I write them so if I didn’t know them fully then they might come across as flat or 2-dimensional. This process works for the most part thought there’s always the odd one who throws you a curve ball you don’t see coming – which is also insanely interesting and fab! I love it when they surprise me!
Q) TJ Tulley comes across as a street smart and savvy woman. Yet there is this element of her that is willing to take grief from her neighbour from hell. I found this quite symbolic of how women are often expected to take a certain degree of insulting remarks or insinuations. Was this intentional?
A) Subconsciously perhaps – most of us are willing to take a lot of crap in real life before we stand up and say enough is enough. Not sure exactly why that is but with TJ, it was important to me that she not be a ‘wet lettuce’ kind of woman. She is strong – has gone through so much and still is. I think she balances what’s worth worrying about with what’s not quite well.
Q) The character of Jackson added at times a spin on the above question. As He is expected to put up with a female character infatuated with him. Even though her behaviour becomes more and more irrational. It was an interesting dynamic that draws you to the characters and their histories. What made you decide to give Jackson his stalker?
A) When I first began writing about Jackson in watch you burn, I knew instantly he’d have his own story. He has a one night stand – the first in many months for him which is unusual – he’s trying to settle down and not be a player – Nicki unfortunately didn’t like the idea of a one night stand and is rather persistent. I’ve seen this quite a lot through work – where one party in the relationship just can’t let go or sees it completely different to the other. Jackson needed a challenge to overcome as well as TJ did and I think Nicki was definitely erring on the more Challenging side!
Q) finally, what can we the readers expect from the next book in the series and are we allowed any information?
A) The next book doesn’t have a title yet (sometimes these come straight away and sometimes they reveal themselves a bit later) but it’s set in Edinburgh and feature more of Ali and Alex’s family – specifically his brother Mark who is younger than them. Mark is lovely – he’s buried himself in working as a detective for so long he’s almost forgetting there’s more to life than just work. He’s got some flaws – claustrophobia being one. And he’s not a big believer in things like psychics – until one shows up in his life. It’s about darkness and shadows, murders in the vaults under the city and family dynamics. I’m loving writing it.

Even though this is book 4 in the series it works really well as a stand alone book as I am testament to as I haven't read the other 3 books yet.

This book stands out for me as it is different to the normal police procedural books I read, this one is more about the forensics behind the crime rather than the police interviewing suspects straight away.

The book starts so dramatically by following the killer's point of view, which is a brilliant way to make you want to read more of the book.

The book revolves around a killer who searches out homeless women who won't be missed and keeps them as his 'angels'.

The other main character in the story is TJ Tulley who runs a stables, who has an evil neighbour  who tries bullying her and has a definite undertone of downright meanness and nastiness in him.  TJ is dragged into this story as her brother and sister-in-law both work in the police force under different sections and she goes to them shortly after her barn catches fire and someone breaks in.

The story is very atmospheric and dark in places and once I started reading it I had to find out what happened and also to see how deep TJ would get involved, along with what the killer would do next when he realised who was eventually investigating the missing people.

Great Author, great book, well written and easy reading with a great plot.

Found this book to be a gripping page turner which was very hard to put down and I read it in a day.

Can definitely recommend, you will not be disappointed.

A woman is abducted and no one knows about it. Her body is buried and no one knows where. Another is abducted and is only missed by a homeless person. TJ Tulley discovers a break in at her home at her home at the riding stables and thinks it could possibly be someone close by who is responsible.

I am all over the place with where to start My Thoughts on this books, I should add that this means it was so good I want to tell you all about all of the story. easy to say this is a great read as I read it in one sitting, yep it was that good. This is the fourth in the Forensic Files series and true to my usual form it is the first one I have read. Under the Woods can be read as a standalone but I do want to read the other books in this series,

This is a dark and addictive murder mystery read with various plot lines. It is a procedural mystery but from the usually overlooked forensic side of the investigation. This is something that I really liked, normally CSI guys come in do their thing and are gone, where as in this they have more of a lead role within the story.

The character of TJ is really quite an intriguing one, she has a past medical condition that affects her everyday life. This becomes more prominent as the story and her part in it unfolds and explanations are given as to what happened. The killer is unknown until the author lets you in on who it is, I did have an ever changing idea as to who it could be and I really liked this cat and mouse style game between myself and the author as I tried to work it out. He is one of those characters you will love to hate, he makes his presence felt from his own point of view within the story, and he is a very creepy and twisted individual. There are various members of TJ’s family and also of the CSI team that make an appearance and once you realise who thay are and their role they are easily identifiable.

If you like dark, multilayered, well written, addictive and absorbing crime, thriller, mystery suspense reads then this is one I would highly recommend. I am now off to buy the rest of the books in this series

This was a fantastic book for me to read, serial killer, CSI and police, all what I enjoy. It was a fast paced book, that was easy to read and kept me hooked, didn't want to put the book down I was that intrigued by the story. Really enjoyed the characters and the story flowed well. I will certainly be reading more from this author

Under The Woods is book #4 of The Forensic Files series and my first K.A. Richardson read. This book is able to be read as a standalone but I definitely want to go back and read the first three books in the series. The prologue piqued my interest right away as the story starts with a sick freak with a woman hostage.

The antagonist in the story targets women who he feels won’t be missed and tortures them. He calls them his angels and eventually kills them. The story alternates from the killer’s point of view and TJ, the protagonist. The author provides the reader with some of the killer’s backstory which is not something that you always get to read about. I had narrowed the suspect down to a couple of choices and the identity was revealed fairly early.

I loved this fast paced police thriller. The author kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. I recommend this book and give it a 4 out of 5 stars. Thank you K.A. Richardson and Bloodhound Books for providing me with a copy of this book to read.

This is the fourth book in the forensics file series set in the North East of England. As with the previous books it can be read as a standalone as they are all different but characters from previous books do appear.
If you like your crime fiction dark and creepy then look no further, this will more than satisfy your needs.

When her friend Cheryl is taken from the streets, Sally begs the police to investigate but unwittingly becomes a target for a serial killer who is collecting angels.

Meanwhile, forced to changed career paths due to a devastating attack, TJ has embraced her new role as owner of Rainbow Riding Stables. TJ thinks she’s put the past behind her but after a break in at her house and stables she’s meets CSI Jackson Docherty and together they must find out who is targetting her.

This is the fourth book in this series but the first I’ve read and while some of the characters are recurring from earlier books, I would say this works perfectly well as a stand-alone.

Under The Woods is dark and disturbing novel, set in the North East of England, that puts you inside the mind of a really twisted serial killer. The story focuses more on the CSI/forensic investigation which I found was a nice change than the usual police procedurals.

There were a lot of strong female characters like TJ and Sally who have both been through so much but won’t go down without a fight. I also liked the romance between TJ and Jackson, their chemistry really crackled off the page.

I’m not going to call this book a nail biter, but it really pulls you with the great characters and compelling story that makes you not want to put it down. I don’t want to say too much more in case I end up giving away spoilers!

If I had one issue it was the whole Jackson’s getting stalked by his crazy ex girlfriend storyline. All he seemed to do was shout at her (I’m sorry how many times does shouting at a deranged person actually work?), I just don’t think it really added to the story but that of course is just my opinion.

Overall a darkly disturbing modern thriller that will keep you enthralled throughout.

Happy publication day! I’ve done it again.. Under the Woods is book four in the forensic files series. This is the first book I have read by KA Richardson but nevertheless have all her others waiting patiently on my kindle. It reads well as a standalone but I will be going back to read this series from the start at some point.

A cleverly written story that had me gripped until the last page. Brilliant. Very impressed. This story does contain some dark parts throughout. I felt sorry for poor Cheryl! Must admit one of the main characters in this story THE KILLER is one sick, twisted character! A highly recommended read from me, I look forward to reading the previous 3 books if they’re as good as this one! Thrilling. A well deserved four stars.

I knew from the cover and the title that this was going to be dark and creepy but I didn't realise just how much it would unnerve me. I haven't read any of the previous books in the series so I can definitely say that this book can be read as a standalone, although there are a few references to previous events that I suspect happened in the earlier books. It didn't affect my enjoyment of this book in any way as the author is so skilled at seamlessly weaving enough of the back-story into the narrative to flesh out the characters I was encountering for the first time.

TJ Tully wants to expand her riding stables into the woods surrounding her property but somebody already thinks of the woods as their own and they have invested lots of time in burying their 'angels' under the woods. The killer will do anything to keep this special place as there are still angels to collect and bury there. TJ seems to have a run of bad luck after a break in and a fire threaten to destroy her stables but there is worse to come and even her angry busybody neighbour can't escape the cruel hand of Lady (Bad) Luck.

CSI Jackson Doherty has a lot on his plate; Jackson is called on to investigate the strange events at TJ's stables but he can't seem to escape his personal life. After a one night stand, he's landed himself with a stalker, Nikki. Nikki seems to know his every movements and turns up at the most unlikely of places when she perceives TJ to be a threat to her happily ever after with Jackson. I loved this aspect to the story; Nikki is an absolute fruitcake!

What I loved about Under the Woods (apart from it being set in my native North East) is that you don't have to wait until the end for a big reveal; the killer is revealed about two thirds of the way through. You might expect the pace to drop after that but it is actually the complete opposite as the danger levels seemed to increase to epic proportions. Once I knew who was collecting these 'angels', I felt as if the story became even more creepy (if that's even possible, as it's pretty creepy to start with). I felt my heart rate quicken and I even began holding my breath at times as the killer's confidence seemed to grow as time went on.

With K.A. Richardson's remarkable attention to gruesome detail, Under the Woods is a Creepfest with a capital C; I can feel my heart pounding just thinking about it. It's one of those books that you live and breathe with every page and definitely one to read with all the lights on or you'll find yourself jumping at shadows. K.A. Richardson's Under the Woods totally creeped me out and I enjoyed every minute of it. I certainly won't be going down to the woods anytime soon.

I chose to read an ARC and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Absolutely thrilling! I loved this book it was such a great story full of tension and suspense and non stop action. It really had me gripped, turning the pages so fast as I devoured it. Literally couldnt put it down, a very well deserved 5 stars.

under the woods by KA Richardson.
When a homeless woman, Cheryl Whiffen, hears voices in her head telling her to do bad things, she can’t help but obey.
But when Cheryl becomes the victim of a serial killer who is collecting angels, this time the voices can’t help her. She is deemed not worthy of being an angel and the killer has to find another way to dispose of her body.
TJ Tulley has connections in the police force – her brother Jacob is a digital forensic analyst and her soon to be sister-in-law is a CSI. She knows many of their colleagues so when someone breaks into her house at the riding stables she owns, it’s not a surprise when the police dispatch CSI Jackson Doherty.
Is there a link between a suspicious fire at the stables and the serial killer?
As TJ and Doherty get closer to the truth they don’t realise the danger they are in. He is a killer – he’s angry at their investigation and he’ll do just about anything to protect his angels…
an absolutely fantastic read. loved the story and the characters. apart from the killer. didn't like him. I loved Jackson even though people told tj to stay away from him.
.my favourite part was when Jackson met tj. loved tj too. how she managed her disorder. 5*.

I am a massive fan of this author's books so when I saw that she had a new releases I jumped at the chance to read it - and I am so glad I did - it is brilliant!!

I was hooked right from the first page as we are thrown straight in to the story and I was held right until the very end. I loved the plot, pace and characterisation which really brought the story to life.
Whilst this is the fourth book in the series you would be fine to read it as a stand alone but honestly if you do get the chance, read the other books they are excellent!

No hesitation in giving the book 5 stars - very highly recommended!!

I found this an intriguing read and read in two sittings. i enjoyed that the story wsd told through the eyes of the different characters. The characters were believable as well as the relationships between them, I think this was because of the clearly thought out links and background stories from the author.

I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes police procedural and thrillers.

First time I've read a book by KA Richardson and I loved it, loved the main characters and how it kept me pulled into the story , and I can relate to the main character TJ because I also have margarines and have a touch of TMJ in my left jaw, that acts up some times when my jaw gets cold. But the one thing I loved about TJ was how she never gives up because of her injury and her love of horses ,another thing I love was the slow romance, with that said I would love to say thinks to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me read and review Under The Woods in change for my honest opinion .
