Description

A married, middle-aged, executive takes the helm of a testosterone-laden company for what he confidently believes will be a $100 million-plus payout. We hear, in his own words, how he ruthlessly reconstructs the company to maximize its sale value. Then we watch his ego and position of power entrap him in an imprudent relationship with a twice-married, equally-unscrupulous, free-spending female co-worker, near financial ruin.

As the executive, continues to tell "his version of the truth,"  we become insiders to boardroom power struggles, tawdry male-female behaviors, unscrupulous attorneys vying for harassment hush-money, family suicides, accidental deaths, and a host of other unpleasantries.

Illogical. Ironic. Indulgent. Introspective.                                      -San Francisco Book Review

This is an entertaining, often unbelievable, account of corporate politics and the cast of characters we often encounter in the average American company. Crisci's writing is frenetic and personal as he describes the usual unfortunate personas we see in today's politically correct workplace- the conniving HR director, the out-of-their-element management team, the desperate mid-level executive on the brink of ruin. The story is best when it describes the behind-the-scenes meetings that take place as the protagonist, Martin Ruff, is forced from his position. The family sub-plots are interesting too. This book would be great for fans of Michael Crichton's Disclosure as an interesting complimentary piece to their library of corporate misadventure stories. - Amazon Review
