Description

Part of the critically acclaimed Little People, BIG DREAMS series, discover the incredible life of Mother Teresa, along with her message of love and charity.

Agnes (later to become Mother Teresa) was born in Skopje, North Macedonia. She was raised to love God and love others above all else, and from an early age, she knew she wanted to dedicate herself to religion, so she became a nun. She was fascinated by stories of missionaries helping people and wanted to do the same.

She travelled to Ireland, and then to India, where she worked hard to help all those around her. She taught in a school, but realised she could do more, and so she founded a hospital in an old temple, where she fed and cared for the poor and the sick.

She spent the rest of her life caring for those in need around the world and is now remembered as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. This moving book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of Mother Teresa's amazing life.

Little People, BIG DREAMS is a best-selling biography series for kids that explores the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream.

This series is always a joy to read, it’s a really nice introduction to well known women for little children. Of course the plot is always a little bit fast but that’s to be expected and it’s totally understandable.
I know Mother Teresa's story and I think it was summed up pretty well in this lovely little book. The illustrations were just gorgeous.

I am so glad this book series exists. The illustrations are gorgeous and they are such an easy and fun way to get very young children interested in history early on while inspiring them with stories of little people who have changed the world in their own ways.

Interesting and inspiring book about one of the world’s most recent saints commonly called Mother Teresa. A fascinating introduction to her life and times and good works is perfect for engaging the minds of our younger students K-3rd grade but will also appeal to older audiences. Even I learned something new about her life by reading it.

Mother Teresa is part of the amazing Little People Big Dreams series which introduces important people of history to young readers.

Before this book I was oblivious to what Mother Teresa had done when she was alive, all I knew was that she is a Saint.

Through reading this book the reader can learn about how Mother Teresa opened hospitals and orphanages when she went to Calcutta and started in a convent in Ireland.

I would recommend this book for parents or teachers who have young children who are interest in learning about people who changed the world.

Thank you to the publisher for sending me a NetGalley link for this title.

A delightful book. I've heard so much about this series, but never read one of the books before. The information is presented in a concise manner with adorable illustrations to go along. There were a couple of things which even I didn't remember about Mother Teresa. A great way to introduce young readers to principal figures from history. This series should be in every library or classroom where there are young kids! Loved the inclusion of actual photographs with a brief summary at the end.

I'm so happy that Little People Big Dreams have included Mother Teresa in their series of influential women, who changed the world.

She was an inspirational figure whilst growing up, in a gentle way. Her life and work still create awe and I'm so happy that children can still draw inspiration from her teachings. The take away message in this book and indeed in her life was that no act is small when done with great love.

Loved the book and look forward to the upcoming books in the series.

“Mother Teresa” by Isabel Sanchez Vegara, is a children’s book that shares the impact Mother Teresa’s life had on our world. The illustrations in this book are riveting and full of life. This book will captivate any young reader and will inspire children/students to prioritize the life of others. Not only is this book informational, but it’s a pleasure to read.

This is a highly appealing entry in a highly appealing series. The illustrations are so engaging and adorable. The book is about Agnes. who grew up in Macedonia and, when young, learned about missionary work in India. The work spoke to her, leading Agnes to travel to Ireland where she became a nun. Agnes soon moved to India where she dedicated her life to educating children and taking care of the poor. Agnes, who grew up to be Mother Teresa, led a truly exceptional life. Let your little one be inspired by this amazing, modest and saintly woman. This charmingly told read aloud for children includes photos and additional biographical information along with a short reading list.

This a powerful and moving picture book for children that tells the story of a woman who's story still resonates with us today. It is filled with wonderful brightly coloured illustrations. This is part of a series of book which I would recommend for all children so they can see that there have been some amazing women in history who aren't also talked about.

Mother Teresa is a well-known figure in the world, however, many do not know where she got her start.

In this book, kids will get a short look at the life of Mother Teresa, and how she got her start in the world, becoming one of the most well-known nuns in the modern age.

Great for beginning readers and those who are wanting a jumping off point for learning more about Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa was an incredible woman! I learned a lot about her childhood and how she became a nun through this book . What a beautiful story about how a small woman allowed God to use her in big ways.

I love this series. It is so great at introducing historic figures into children’s lives (and let’s face it, adult’s lives too). Of course I knew of Mother Teresa but I didn’t know much outside of her good works. This book enlightened me with both the illustrations and the text (simple enough for children, informative enough for everyone to learn something).

I love this series. As I said in my review of the Anne Frank book in this series, I think books like these are extremely valuable. I absolutely loved the illustrations in the Mother Teresa book because they were bright and colorful. I also loved that the book ended with a powerful lesson about helping people.

I have heard about this series, and I have been eager to read it. A Danish book blogger recommended them a while ago, and they have been in the back of my head.
Now that I have read this one, I understand the recommendation.
This book is written in a language that is easy to read and understand. You get the story of Mother Teresa in the easy language without feeling like the author is dumbing it down.
And the illustrations are beautiful! Children and adults alike can easily enjoy them.
I highly recommend this book, and I can’t wait to read more from this series!

'Little People, Big Dreams: Mother Teresa' by Isabel Sanchez Vegara with art by Natascha Rosenberg tells the life of Mother Teresa in a picture book format.

Little Agnes was born in Macedonia. She was taught to love God and others from a young age. This turned in to a compassion for the poor. She became Mother Teresa and became famous all over the world.

The art was cute and colorful. I like the way the story is told. I like this series because it tells a number of stories and presents a number of different creative ways to live a life and make a difference.

When your name is basically synonymous with "the highest expression of Christianity and humanity," you know you are living right. That is more true for Mother Teresa than for practically anyone else. Isabel Sanchez Vegara distills Mother Teresa's life into a picture book for the "Little People, Big Dreams" series in Mother Teresa. Accompanied by Natascha Rosenberg's cute illustrations, Vegara tells the heart of Mother Teresa's story.

From her childhood in Macedonia to her decision to become a nun as a teenager, from teaching children to India to helping sick people on the street, from opening hospitals and orphanages around the world to being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, Mother Teresa never wavered from her desire to serve the poor.

Mother Teresa captures the love and humility and joy with which she served. As Vegara points out, "She received all the awards that could be given to a single person." Her lesson for all of us is to love others, always. What a great example she set. And what a charming book to introduce young children to this model we can all emulate.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary electronic review copy!

This series is a must-have. In the "Little People, BIG DREAMS" series the newest book is all about Mother Theresa. Kids will discover her incredible humble life as she stoops down to serve and to reach out to the poorest of the poor in Calcutta, India.

She is born with the name Agnes in Skopje, Macedonia. As a young child she knows in her heart that she is called by God to dedicate herself to care for the poor, the sick and the forgotten all around the world. Mother Theresa becomes a nun, teaches children in India and is a catalyst to open up hospitals and orphanages to help the oppressed and suffering all around her.

This selfless, giant-hearted woman gives her whole life to care for those less fortunate than her, those that have no money or voice to survive on their own. She is recognized worldwide for her dedication, compassion and deep love for those that suffer alone.

"She received all the awards that could be given to a single person."

"In 1979 she received the Nobel Peace Prize for her humanitarian work. She died in September 1997 and was beatified in October 2003. In December 2015, Pope Francis recognized a second miracle attributed to Mother Teresa, clearing the way for her to be canonized on September 4, 2016."

This educational book is inspiring to both the young and old. The illustrations are very kid-friendly and bring her biography to life. The colour pallet is bold and vibrant. Mother Theresa is a positive role model, an unyielding force for good. This wonderful book sends a powerful message, through her, that ordinary people can impact and change their world for the better. I highly, highly recommend this book and the whole series.

An inspiring tale recommended for Catholics and non-Catholics alike. I know there is some controversy about Mother Teresa's legacy (and honestly, I'm not very familiar with it) but this book serves as an easy to read reminder that it is important to care for others.

A lovely little picture book biography. This little book contains a lot of information about Mother Teresa in such a small amount of pages. The only thing that might be confusing to a young child is the fact that her name keeps changing (from Agnes to Sister Teresa to Mother Teresa) without explanation. A good basic life story and it includes actual photos of Mother Teresa and some more information about her at the end of the book. Recommended for early elementary students.

Mother Teresa was a courageous woman. She set out to become a nun and then she she set out to help the poor people who needed help most. This Little People book shows her astonishing life in wonderful pictures and short paragraphs.

Another great mini biography from the "Little People, Big Dreams" series.

Growing up as a kid I heard a lot about Mother Teresa and her legacy yet I didn't know much about her life. This tiny book, by all means, is not sufficient to list everything Mother Teresa did as a philanthropist but it is condense enough to show what a great humanitarian she was. It's never too early to educate young children about love and giving. Mother Teresa's legacy should not be forgotten for she was one of the most influential figures in the recent history.

The book is adorned with beautiful illustrations. Short and simple text that helps to retain children's attention. "Mother Teresa" makes a wonderful addition to the "Little People, Big Dreams" series. A must read!

I have enjoyed every book in this series, and I love seeing all of the amazing, positive female role models being profiled, but I saved my favorite for last. I have always found inspiration from Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to helping the poor in India. If there were anyone famous I would ever strive to be like, it would be here. Once again, this is a great introduction of a female role model to kids with gorgeous illustrations to match. I think this book belongs on every kid's bookshelf!

This Little People, Big World series is outstanding! I am simply in love with them all! This is my 7-8th book that I've reviewed from the series on NetGalley, and they have all been 5 star reviews for me. The books are short, sweet, and beautifully illustrated. They are colorful, and exciting and they make learning fun for young children. I hope I can find the whole collection for my nieces and nephews.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I truly appreciate it!

This series about inspirational women, aimed at four to seven year olds is an absolute delight. This volume is about Mother Teresa, chronicling her life from a loving, devout child names Agnes to that of a missionary nun in Calcutta who posthumously came to be known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta. It is beautifully told and illustrated and its message is the wonderfully heartwarming ‘it doesn’t matter if you do big or small things in your life, as long as you do them with great love’. A lovely book for younger children to teach them about charity, goodness and caring for others.

Another book in the “Little People Big Dreams” series.
I wonder if most people ever thought of Mother Teresa as anything but a religious and social figure. Who was she before that? This little book for little kids provides some answers.
For one, she was from Macedonia, though I don’t know if back then it was one independent country or part of Greece and others. When a new priest came to town, who’d worked in India, it inspired her to become a nun and help people. First she went to a convent in Ireland, then off to India; wonder how different things would be had she stayed on the Emerald Isle.
There’s one illustration that features many of the clichés of India, like the snake charmer, with her in the middle, dressed as a nun and smiling.
As you can imagine, this is mostly about her helping the poor.
Like all of these books, there’s a timeline that repeats the text but is accompanied by photos instead of artwork. This time, for whatever reason, I enjoyed the photos here more than in other books.
3.5 pushed up to 4/5

Thank you Quatro Publishing and Net Galley for the free review copy. I love biographies for children, and this series by Isabel Sanchez Vegara is great. Mother Teresa's story is presented in a clear way for young readers. I love that the story starts with Mother Teresa as a young girl because it's relatable for kids. I think these are great books for kids who have an interest in nonfiction. I would definitely recommend this book.

What an adorable book to introduce kiddos to the life of service that was Saint Mother Teresa's! The illustrations in the book are colorful and I could see how they would maintain the attention of the child listening. The story is directly told (trying to tell her entire life story in read-aloud form must have been tough) and weaves some phrases from her most famous quotes ("do them with great love").

The book doesn't mention Jesus or her love for Him through the poor. I recognize it's a non-religious book, but that was her purpose. I also might have chose a serif font (so so picky, I know. That doesn't play a role in my rating.) so that early readers could start identifying the letters and sight words used in the text.

The book did a fine job of showing her loving nature. I am not sure how to do this with a children's book, but this woman was also an extremely strong woman. The meekness of her definitely comes across, but I'm not sure the strength is obvious and that's one of the important balances of being a saint.

I have a real love for Mother Teresa, I even have a painting of her in our family room and it helps me manage parenting with greater calm... anyway - this book was wonderful for me to introduce her to my children in a very accessible way. We had talked about who the woman on the wall was, but this book described her life and work much better than I ever could.

The Little People, Big Dreams series is such an excellent idea, bringing significant people from history to life for young readers in such wonderful illustrations.

This book begins with Mother Teresa as a young girl, when she was still called Agnes and part of a family. Little Agnes is caring and kind, and it shows her love of God and her family as a young child and how her kindness stayed with her into adulthood with her becoming and nun and later Saint Teresa of Calcutta.

It’s wonderfully colourful illustrations give so much interest to young eyes, with so much to look at on every page. Lovely vibrant nature scenes and indoor scenes, which all have lots of animals and rosy-cheeked cherub-like characters. Natascha Rosenberg’s enchanting illustrations are tasteful and modern. These are incredible books, not only lovely to look at but also beautifully written with inspiring stories.

I have had the opportunity to read several of the books from the Little People, Big Dreams series. I am very excited about this series. It focuses on Moral Figures in our history and teaches it to the younger children in our lives on their level. And to top it off this series unlike many other actually focus on Women. I love how these books show young girls who read them that they can be and do anything they set their mind to.

This book is about Mother Teresa and all of the great things she done in her life and that are still being carried on after her death. I actually learned a few things about Mother Teresa from this book as well.

These are shirt books but are packed with a lot of information. At the back of the book there is also section of pictures from Mother Teresa's life. So the Children get to see real photo's of the person they read about.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com and chose to leave this review.

This is another brilliant addition to this series – even as an adult I look out for the next book in the series being released. I love the images in this series and this is a delightful introduction to Mother Teresa, her background and some of the amazing things she achieved during her life.

They are excellent introductions to some of the well-known, and less well-known, characters that have had a great impact in our lives through a variety of subjects such as literature, women’s rights and science.

5 stars from me for this one – a delightful read and one I will be highly recommending!!

Mother Teresa was one of those figures that I never really knew much about. I mean, I knew that she worked with the poor in India, that she lived among them and had close contact with lepers. But that was it. This is a very shallow, simple biography of course, simple explanations and a few logical holes. Sill, I like this use of a real life example to express moral lessons to small children. Generosity and compassion are great concepts to instill in the very young. This series has the potential to provide small children with real, admirable heroes to model themselves after.

I am becoming quite fond of the Little People Big Dreams series as an excellent introduction for young children to important figures in history. This wonderful child friendly account of the life of Mother Teresa provides a great start to learning about a figure who I grew up hearing about on the news.

This style of writing is becoming quite familiar now, with a basic biography of Mothe Teresa with bright engaging illustrations followed by a photograph timeline with a few paragraphs more aimed at adults/older children.

This book would be a great start to researching a key figure from recent history, giving children the opportunity to carry out further research

Little People, Big Dreams is a series of nonfiction children’s books focused on famous women, past and present. Mother Teresa is the second I’ve read in this series and it is beautiful! As was the case in Jane Austen edition, the illustrations are beyond charming and the information is pitch perfect for young children. It is essentially a quick biography, explaining how a child named Agnes, born in Macedonia, came to be Mother Teresa, a nun whose work would lead to sainthood.

Naturally, I know who Mother Teresa is and the work she is known for, but really very little beyond that. This children’s mini-biography provided a more context to her life story than I previously had and piqued my interest to learn more. A book that educates and stokes curiosity is exactly the right kind of children’s book, if you ask me. And the illustrations in this addition were particularly vibrant making me love it all the more!

So far, this series of books is a big hit for me! Eagerly anticipating whatever comes next.

Young kids today may not know who Mother Teresa of Calcutta is. But when I was still young, her remarkable and unselfish dedication to helping the poor is immensely known. I was in grade school when her demise happened and I remember how her death was mourned all over the world, yet her life story was also celebrated because she set as an inspiration to everyone to help to those are in dire situations.

I admit that I never knew who Mother Teresa is before she became a nun and this little book was a huge help for me to better understand her devotion to reach out to the poorest of the poor. Her compassion and generosity traits are a great example to teach to young kids because these will be instilled in their mind, that they will carry till they grew up.

New in the Little People, Big Dreams series, discover the incredible life of Mother Teresa. The text and illustrations show Agnes as a child brought up in the Roman Catholic faith in Macedonia. Her parents helped others and invited them into their home. When Agnes as 12 she had a calling, but her mother made her wait until she was 18 to become a nun. She changed her name and became Sister Teresa. She always wanted to go to India to help the people and that is where she ended up, as a celebrated heroine to the poor and sick on the streets of Calcutta. The author, Isabel Sanchez Vegara’s makes the point that everything she did and all the accolades she received were all done in the name of the poor. This is a child friendly biography that shows a young woman striving to achieve her dream of helping others and that whatever you do, you do it in the name of love. The back of the book has a brief timeline that is for older readers. This book could be used to teach young children how to write a biography, show that it big or small, you can still make a difference in the lives of others. A good book for a school library. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book to read via netgalley. The rating, opinions and ideas stated are my own.

(General series review) These are fabulous stories about great women and men in history (for the most part). The illustrations are so amazing, both for kids and adults. There is a brief history on the person that explains how this person contributed to history and matters. Growing up, Mother Teresa was a big role model for me.
