I love Bob Ross, over the years, he has inspired me to paint, use my imagination and turn paint and canvas into something incredible. This book has a brief history of Bob Ross, the tools and techniques needed to paint the subsequent pictures. A great mixture of mountain, water and meadow scenes with references back to each technique used. All is sure to inspire your inner artist. The unrehearsed, unedited show soon became a favourite among aspiring artists and painters. Almost 40 years and 403 episodes after his on-air debut, and decades after his untimely passing, Bob Ross still has enormous global popularity as a beloved painter, affable TV personality, and cultural icon. Painting with Bob Ross: Landscapes introduces artists and Bob Ross fans to the basics of painting landscapes with his specially formulated oil paints. With art instruction from Bob Ross himself, artists of all ages will enjoy Painting with Bob Ross: Landscapes, as his “happy accidents” approach, makes this challenging subject matter enjoyable for artists of all skill levels. I LOVE Bob Ross ... he is on my constantly watched Netflix feed and his use of a wet-on-wet oil painting technique is as unique as he is. Did you know that he used to be a drill sergeant? Can you imagine him yelling? Me, neither! This is a great book for the artsy in yourself (or yourself if you are a painter like myself) and even if you work in acrylics like I do, you can get a lot out of this book. So be ready to paint #happylittletrees and have #happyaccidents as this book is great!!! |

Painting with Bob Ross: Learn to paint in oil step by step! by Bob Ross Inc. is everything you’re hoping it is. If you’re anything like me, you grew up with a love and admiration for the man behind the happy little clouds, Mr. Bob Ross. This book starts with The Bob Ross story then dives into the best tools and materials to use at home. I really enjoy that this book cover some basic painting techniques before the book dives instructions on how to create some of Bob’s most notable works. The layout and design of this book make it feel like an art piece of its own. I can not wait to buy this book and add it to my library! It will go right next to my Bob Ross Funko Pop. I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster, Walter Foster Publishing and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Reading this wonderful book Painting with Bob Ross bought great memories came back with me and my mum watching Bob Ross when I was a teenager (blimey that was over 30 years ago!) on our old Television, and nagging her and my grandad to buy me art products, so Birthday and Christmas presents were easy for them to get me. Bob inspired me to pick up a paint brush and start to learn to paint etc. By watching these over and over, I created those lovely pictures. He made so easy to do. However, mine never looked like his but they were unique and painted by me. Painting with Bob Ross book is crammed with so much information throughout this book. You will find 16 painting projects, each with a complete list of tools and materials needed. It has step-by-step illustrations on how to create some graceful mountains, ocean waves crashing onto rocks, a winter cabin, a lakeside path, a deep forest river, these illustrations are just Brilliant. This is a joyful book and if you love Bob Ross you will love his new book written by Bob Ross Inc. You never get bored with his paintings and how he explains how to create them. Well Done for a brilliant and colourful book. Plus highly recommended by Me. Thanks to Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster and NetGalley for the review copy. |

I should preface this by saying I own no oils (or acrylics) which are the paints that will work best for Bob Ross tutorials. My art skills are stuck at perma newbie and I usually use pencils, pens, and watercolors and I tend to stick to not very realistic faces, flowers, and cats. Not the widest range but I enjoy it. I also want to improve, so Bob Ross landscapes? Yes, please. I will say that this book is definitely 5 stars BUT with a caveat: if, like me, you haven't worked in oils I would highly recommend watching some of his videos (there's an official Bob Ross channel on YouTube) so that you get a feel for the different techniques used before you rely on the book alone, I understood intellectually most of the techniques in this book, but watching them in action helps me anyway. If you've ever seen a "The Joys of Painting" episode, this book stays true to the show. Some of his better known sayings are here (Happy Little accidents, anyone?). The techniques are the same. It's just in book form. As I said, I do feel that watching some videos is important to truly understand how he paints. That said, I also feel like sometimes when you're working on anything artsy or craftsy, you don't really want to have a video that you have to keep pausing, rewinding, etc. That's where this books comes in. Once you know what you're doing, you can paint anywhere you want but still have a Bob Ross tutorial with you. Even if you don't want to work in oils or have no interest in landscapes, I'd still recommend this book and/or his videos. It's very useful for understanding the layout of such things. I feel like that knowledge can be translated to other mediums, even if they work best for oils. |

I have always loved Bob Ross books. This one is for the oil painters out there. I never got to watch his television show but he has a lot of DVDs so you can follow along. Oil painting isn’t as difficult as it use to be, with the cleaners and other bad smelling chemicals. He has created specialty’s oil paints. With this book you can follow along step by step to creat beautiful landscapes in oil. Although I find it a very difficult medium to work with, but if you love Bob Ross’s paintings this is a great book. |

Painting with Bob Ross Learn to paint in oil step by step! by Bob Ross Inc is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I have watched Bob Ross videos all my life and have many of his books. I watched his videos just because he was fascinating and calming to watch! Because I did watch so much, I can read between the lines in this book. This has 16 projects in step by step picture/info steps but because these projects are so advanced, I think a total beginner would not be able to do manage without watching his videos prior to reading this book. Having an idea of what he does would help. Anyone that has watched his videos and has some art behind them, this would be great! A beginner that has watched Bob would probably do alright too. In the book, he gives the tools and what paints you will need for each project. Lovely art, different places and landscapes. Miss him so much..:( |

I have loved Bob Ross’ paintings and calming personality for years, so was excited to review this book. Apart from step by step instructions on how to paint several of Bob’s paintings, scattered throughout the book are some of the positive sayings he used in his tv show. I don’t know if there is a book of these available but if not there should be. The painting themselves are very typical Bob Ross, and if you are a fan of this style you will enjoy learning how to produce these yourself. This book could be used in conjunction with the appropriate episode of The Joy of Painting so that you can have everything you need ready beforehand, and to follow along and make sure you don’t miss anything. I have always wanted to try painting, and now can’t wait to get some Titanium White on a brush and give it a go. |

Painting with Bob Ross is the newest tutorial book from Walter Foster and Quarto Publishing. Due out 4th Sept, 2018, it's 128 pages and available in paperback format. I think almost everyone has Bob Ross memories. Mine usually involved gasping in shock and thinking he had totally ruined the painting he was working on. He always made it gorgeous of course and along the way slipped in a few lessons in his life philosophy. Relax, breathe, go with the moment and have fun. This book brought back such great memories for me of watching his public broadcasting show and listening to him talking about painting and life. The book includes 16 project tutorials with supplies and preparation as well as a large full colour photo of the project. The intro pages are followed by step by step tutorials for laying in background, washes, detail and finishing. There are also original Bob Ross quotes interspersed in the tutorial chapters. It felt like a really lovely visit with a good friend. Five stars. |

Is there anyone who doesn't love Bob Ross? I grew up watching him paint happy little trees and clouds even though I've never picked up a brush for painting more than walls or furniture. I'm not sure I ever knew he lived in Alaska for a time. I wonder now if he played a small part in my moving to Alaska after high school. Maybe he planted that seed! I always loved his forest and mountain paintings best. This book gives step by step instruction to create many beatiful scenes. Do I think a total newb could recreate these paintings with the book alone? I know I couldn't. But I do think this book is a great companion for the videos or for someone with a bit of experience. Know an artist? Or a wanna be artist? Or just someone who appreciates Bob? They would love this book! It made me smile the whole way through and I could hear Bob's soothing voice in my head. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book... and for the trip down memory lane. All comments are my own, unbiased opinion. |

Painting with Bob Ross by Bob Ross, Inc., is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early September. It's a giant wealth of relaxation just to tune into this show on Netflix, as if I wasn't a big enough fan already from watching him in my youth on PBS. About 6 pages are devoted per per painting (in that it takes 7-13 steps to achieve a complete painting with multiple levels & foreground), following a kind, personable and vividly photographed intro on Bob Ross, quotations from him, and instructions on materials (wow, he has his own line of paints and brushes!) & techniques (mainly the 'alla prima' method and what tools to use when creating trees/mountains/meadows/mists/clouds). The overall effect is much brighter, high-def, and, I don't know, sparklier than what was seen on television. |

"Talent is nothing more than a pursued interest," he would often say. "All you need to paint is a few tools, a little instruction, and a vision in your mind." Painting with Bob Ross is a perfect book for fans of Bob Ross and would love to learn how to paint alongside his instructions in your own time. Sometimes watching The Joy of Painting can go by way too quickly to keep up (unless you pause whenever you need to), but when the instructions and information is presented in this format, you can go at whatever speed you need to. You are given a list (and photos) of all the tools and materials that you'll need to follow along with the tutorials and achieve optimum results and you are also given an overview of basic painting techniques to assist. The steps are well written and appear easy to follow and you are given the opportunity to recreate some of Bob's most popular paintings. I can't wait to give these tutorials an actual try when I have some spare time on the weekend and I am definitely adding this book to my purchase list once the book is released on 8 October 2018. *thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Walter Foster for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. |

This is a really fun art book that reminded me so very much of the Bob Ross painting show…and I really do miss that show. This book is perfect for anybody that wants to learn to oil paint, as well as for any fans of the late Bob Ross. If you’ve watched all of his shows and want something a bit newer, this might be perfect for you. Even if you haven’t watched his shows, the painting guides in here are very well laid out. Bob Ross always had a talent for breaking up the painting process and laying it all out for the aspiring artist. Thankfully this book managed to recreate that ability fairly well. It’s not quite the same as watching the show – however you also don’t have to be afraid about not keeping up with him either, as you decide when to turn the page. What I really loved about this book is that they took the time to share some of Bob Ross’ history with us. I can honestly tell you that I didn’t know a lot of what was included in it, so it was very informative for me. Having this as the introduction was a really nice touch – it felt like they were honoring him. |

Quarto Publishing Group – Walter Foster Like thousands of other people, I LOVED watching Bob Ross create beautiful paintings on television, and every so often I will check out one of the episodes on YouTube just to get my "fix" of "happy little trees." I've always been intimidated by the idea of painting along with one of these video tutorials, but having a print version as an option gives me new hope. Starting out like many others, there is a tools and materials section. It includes the paints and brushes Mr. Ross used, and the beloved palette knife! There's also the unique wet-on-wet method of painting he used, which I've always found particularly AWESOME! A handy material list is given for each individual project, so you won't get distracted wandering off looking for your tube of Titanium white. There are quotes sprinkled throughout that I just couldn't help myself hearing them in his voice. Thank you to NetGalley for an electronic copy in exchange for an honest review. 5/5 stars |

If you like painting landscapes, Bob Ross’s book, Learn To Paint In Oil Step By Step, is a great book to start with. For beginners, he starts by introducing the supplies you will need and does a good job specifying which brush to use and how to use it throughout the book. He also does a good job explaining the color theory. Many of his paintings are challenging for the more advanced as well. All of his paintings are landscapes. Some of them are more unique by painting a landscape through a window. There is a wide variety of landscapes including day, night, and different seasons. Of course, there are a few happy trees and happy accidents that happen along the way. I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about oil painting. Walter Foster Publishing and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of Painting with Bob Ross: Learn to pain in oil step by step! I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given. Readers who grew up watching Bob Ross on local television will absolutely delight in Painting with Bob Ross. This book includes all of his techniques, as well as his famous phrases such as "happy little trees" and "Let's go crazy, what the heck!" The most interesting part of the book for me was the biography, as Bob's personal story was not part of the television show. His charm and calm demeanor helped inspire generations of would-be artists. Beginners can easily learn the Bob Ross method with this book, as it includes the tools and techniques for success. Readers are able to create their own paintings using their own brushes, as the book includes step-by-step instructions for some of those works. Creating landscape paintings, including seascapes, mountains, and winter scenes is possible with Painting with Bob Ross. This book is an idea gift for those who are fans of Bob Ross and who desire to learn his techniques. |

What the Book’s About Painting with Bob Ross is an instructional book for oil painting based on the instructional style of Bob Ross. First Impressions The book seems very beginner friendly and the photography is stunning. There are a lot of examples of the paintings that are being taught throughout the book. What I Liked The first thing I’d like to note is the detailed instructions provided for each piece. The paintings are gone through step by step so that a beginner knows where to start their piece and how to put finishing touches on it. Painting with Bob Ross also includes details for what paint types to use as well as how to adapt with other methods of painting if one wishes to. One of the best parts of this book are Bob Ross’ inspirational quotes and the liberal usage of happy little trees and clouds. What I Didn’t Like I felt there weren’t enough steps for the paintings which made the paintings seem extra intimidating. The steps jump from filling in the sky to the foreground and then a few details and finishing touches. I wish there were broader explanations for how to make the sky the way that it is and how the painter arrives at the parts in the foreground. Follow Up Thoughts & Feelings Overall, this book is a fun and beginner-friendly instruction book. I would definitely recommend it for anyone that loves Bob Ross or is interested in learning how to paint the way that he does. |

A great mixture of mountain, water and meadow scenes with references back to each technique used. All is sure to inspire your inner artist. I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher --- “All you need is the desire to make beautiful things happen on canvas…” – Bob Ross In 1982, The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross made its debut on public television. |

The unrehearsed, unedited show soon became a favorite among aspiring artists and painters. Almost 40 years and 403 episodes after his on-air debut, and decades after his untimely passing, Ross still has enormous popularity. This joyful guide teaches artists the basics of painting landscapes with Ross’ specially formulated oil paints. Features his signature “happy accidents” approach that makes challenging subjects less formidable and more fun for artists at all levels. |

I've always been intimidated by the idea of painting along with one of these video tutorials, but having a print version as an option gives me new hope.
