i love how explicit but easily understandable this book is. even though i am also pro-natural, i think the author gives a pretty unbiased view of all the medical interventions and their pros and cons. i also appreciated the information on possible complications, i want to know about these things but do not want to read horror stories, you know? i want information, factual, to the point. i've read the previous editions so i'd already had the gist of it but i appreciated the updated version. i am sure i will read it again if i am ever able to get pregnant :)

This is a great book for a wide variety of people, from husbands to doulas. I have read quite a few books on pregnancy and labor, The Birth Partner is by far the best guide to supporting a mom through labor and delivery. I have several friends who are doulas and this book is actually a reading requirement for them to get their certification. This book goes over every topic of labor that you can think of, from knowing the signs of labor to natural & medical induction methods. The book has a lot of information on non-medical pain relieving techniques, from women who are leaning towards an all natural birth. However, the book isn't one sided and does provide information about epidurals as well. There is also information on breastfeeding and caring for a newborn. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who is planning on being the support person for a laboring mom.

Thank you to the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book.
