This story draws you in right away. Michael's life is at a low; dishonorably discharged from the navy, now he is being dismissed from his job as a fencing instructor and his family isn't speaking to him. Things can only improve as he spends most of his savings to travel to Jamaica with the hope of starting over. A tavern brawl, beautiful women and pirates seeking to mend their ways lead Michael to places he never even dreamed about.

I will admit that there were a couple spots where the pace slowed down a bit too much for my tastes; with lots of details. Generally, it kept my interest with both plot and characters and I really enjoyed it. Being a pirate book, there were some gruesome parts, and a few lewd ones, but nothing overt.

I would recommend it for teens and adults.
