Description

In 1988 a little girl called Matilda brightened up our lives – 30 years later, what do you think she would be doing now?

To mark Matilda’s 30th birthday, Quentin Blake has imagined what Matilda would be doing at 30 years old. From being Chief Executive of the British Library, to an Astrophysicist, to travelling the world, Quentin’s brand new illustrations of Matilda now feature on three celebratory editions of the original story.

Read Roald Dahl's story again and see the covers inside this special NetGalley edition.

Through Roald Dahl’s incredible story, and Quentin Blake’s iconic illustrations, readers around the world were introduced to a character who was ahead of her time. Matilda was the quintessential young rebel, who, inspired by her love of books, was ready to tackle injustice and bullies whenever and wherever they sprang from.

Matilda is nothing less than an icon – of page, screen and stage. Matilda’s story demonstrates the need to stand up for what you believe is right and that, even when you feel most SMALL and powerless, you can stand up to BIG bullies, change tough circumstances for the better and in effect, write your own story.

Advance Praise

“I have had a lot of fun imagining what that little girl might be doing now she’s all grown up. Since, as a small child, Matilda was gifted in several different ways, it wasn’t very difficult… Illustrating MATILDA was a wonderful experience. It has been very special to revisit her all these years later and marvel at the woman she would have become.” Sir Quentin Blake

1.  “It’s just joyous. When she begins, she has no idea of her potential and she goes on to do amazing things… It’s not like she’s this whole different person but she’s found love, she’s found acceptance. And she can make a book fly to her when she wants a bedtime story.”  STAR WARS actress Daisy Ridley cites MATILDA as her all-time favourite movie.

OMG, how can Matilda be 30?! What a delight it is to revisit this childhood favourite, now with gorgeous and varied covers that show Quentin Blake's Matilda in a variety of occupations: head of the British Library (my fave), as an astrophysicist, and as a mountaineer/traveller.

The text is the original, still funny, still outrageous, and still has us cheering on Matilda against The Trunchbull! This would make an ideal Christmas present for kids - but really I'd just want to keep this for myself!
