"Death was unstoppable. Inevitable. It always won in the end."- Pale Wolves by Thomas Hulse
"Pale wolves", is a multiple perspective post-apocalyptic fantasy novel set in the 11th-century following a vast range of diverse characters. One of the main characters we follow is Nikphoros; a necromancer; he can bring the dead back to life.
What happens when Nikphoros's dark past takes over and he raises an army, and with their claws and fangs he leads them into battle. Yet for Leonos, a fire magician and a healer, life goes on as normal living in his mother's house, thinking he is safe from the outside world. He has no idea what is coming for him!
This thrilling suspenseful story keeps you captivated until the very last word. I was totally absorbed into this fascinating story and the short chapters and page-turning end of chapter tag lines force you to keep going. I read this in just a few sittings. The writing is beautiful and our insane protagonist keeps you addicted to the plot.
I have truly never read anything like this and would love to read more by Thomas Hulse. "Pale Wolves" is enthralling and gory and at times disturbing I loved the family bonds and the many quotes I found throughout the book.
I must warn that there are elements of suicide, mentally distorted characters, violence, gore and alcohol addiction.
It contains LGBTQA+ representation.
I think this is a suitable book for anyone who doesn't preferably read horror and post-apocalyptic, or a fantasy reader looking for something a little different.
Honestly, this book is underrated I give it 4 out of 5 stars.
It is a story of survival and love and war and blood and insanity.if that perks your interest feel free to pick it up now click here
